Hi all,
In my seemingly never ending quest to find all the existing footage of Matt Monro for his daughter, i've come across a couple of things that I can't explain.
Basically she has all of his contracts and work diaries from througout his career.
The problem is that i have two dates for the Morecambe and Wise show that don't tally with any information i can find. The dates are 27/3/68 and 25/2/69 (these SHOULD be recording dates)
Now the problem is this. 27/3/68 was in between series and their transition to the BBC. No M&W shows were broadcast on that day and It's not a very early recording for the (missing) first BBC series, as there is a separate contract for that recording.
25/2/69 is only a few months after Eric's heart attack. The second BBC series would be recorded until later in the year and due to Eric's health only 4 shows instead of 6/7. so this seem like an unlikely date too!
Apparently Matt's paper work was kept maticulously by his wife and any cancelled recordings noted. - Nothing is noted for these two dates.
Does anybody out there have any ideas about this? Matt's widow is absolutley certain that he appeared in at least three shows, but I can only find one from 1969 BBC and one from 1971
Anybody have any theory's here? Could there have been a show recorded at some point that was never broadcast - and is therefore lost - for instance?
Any Help greatly appreciated
Richard

Matt Monro appeared in the now missing 21/10/1968 BBC-2 Morcambe and Wise Show.

Yes i'm aware of that one. First BBC Series show is the 1969 show mentioned above. Still doesn't solve the riddle of the other dates I have!

The show tx'd 21/10/68 was recorded 19/9/68, and Matt's contribution wasn't recorded separately. It's theoretically possible that there was an untx'd pilot for the BBC but there's no trace of it in the VT archive's (admittedly incomplete) records. Interestingly, the show with Matt was recorded about a month after the other seven in the series, which were all recorded between June and August. The place to go is the Written Archives Centre, they would have contractual information which would be the easiest route to establishing what was going on.
