When I saw this on TV ten years ago, I thought the 'architects sketch' was part of it. (Later also used in monty python's flying circus.) But now that I watch the DVD, I can't find that one. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I got the video in 1992 and it wasn't on that either.

You mean the video from the store?
It could be that my memory is wrong. But I recall a thread here long ago, where someone said it had been shortened a bit after the rediscovery.

From what I've read, the show was actually lengthened when released on video. Some extra sketches were added in but all of David Frosts introductions were cut out IIRC.

Oh, I understood it was the opposite... I think Cleese said something like that once when people asked him about it? Well, maybe I am mistaken after all. Still, you wouldn't think there would be much raw footage left. Do you recall where did you read this?

I read about it at web.ukonline.co.uk/sotcaa/python.html under micellaneous -> How to irritate people. It's in the bit right at the bottom of the page.

Ah, there it is, at the bottom of web.ukonline.co.uk/sotcaa/pythonpages/python_irritate.html. But even Matthew Sharp is just guessing what was in and what wasn't. If the time slot theory is correct, then at least 15 minutes must have been restored that had not been seen before. I opened the Python's autobiography, but that did not say anything helpful either. In any case it is quite possible they never saw the result so they couldn't say anything about the editing anyway. A year ago or longer there actually was someone on the board here who said it had been his job to convert the entire thing to PAL. At that time I got the impression some bits had been removed rather then restored. But perhaps that was the raw tape.

Gary C (he used to come here or maybe he still does) tells me there were 2" NTSC tapes containing the unedited studio recordings. So the video we have today is a new edit of those tapes, hence the running time that doesn't fit in standard time slots.

This is quite correct!

Strange, by the way, that Frost should have edited himself out.

Perhaps he thought that his appearance wouldn't help sales lol

Perhaps his introductions were outdated in terms of making television programs? The entire thing always gets, if mentioned at all, only one or two lines in books / documentaries. Even though it has been around for 15 years now.
Well... I admit it wasn't a comedy landmark, but that is mainly because aired only once. It is more a sort of missing link.
