I don't know if this is missing, or anyone will be interested, but just in case! I have been going through the old cassette tapes I have of Dr Who that I recorded in the early 1970's from the ABC in Australia. From 1971 my parents bought a TV with a headphone jack socket, so I was able to record without interference which I got previously when I used a microphone. Most tapes I haven't bothered keeping due to getting replaced by better copies from DVDs, Loose Cannon reconstructions etc. I did however come across my recording of 'Colony In Space' episode 2, which is very unusual in that there is no incidental music or post-production sound effects (howling wind and IMC interiors must have been played into the studio as these are present). I'm assuming that since Australia didn't have colour TV at the time, the ABC screened a 16mm tele-recording - maybe this was an earlier version of the episode before the music and effects were added, I really don't know. And I suppose the BBC may have this tele-recording in the archive. Anyway, if its of any interest, I have a 114Mb wav file that I can share.

The 16mm telerecording is indeed from an early version without music/sound fx - and also has a few seconds of extra footage not in the transmitted version, it was discovered when the story was remastered for the Blu Ray set The deleted material was on the blu ray, but I don't think the early non-music soundtrack was included! (which rather disappointed me)
So yes I'd be interested to hear your recording!

As would I please! I used to have a multi-generation copy of a recording of this, but the tape is long gone.

Also: if you recorded any other programs, don't throw them out just yet? Australia/NZ were the last place where several programs were seen, so you never know.

In regard to recording other programs in the early 70's, I basically concentrated on Dr Who. Since I was at late primary school-early high school then, my pocket money didn't stretch to buying many blank cassettes. I used to tape over most stuff I recorded with newer material. I was fortunate enough to receive the portable cassette record as a gift (quite an early adopter for audio cassettes too). However, I have recently received a box of old reel-to-reel tapes from my parents, and I will be checking through these. As you say, you never know.

I have uploaded the audio to my Dropbox, and hopefully I have set it up so that anyone can download it. The link is www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/lfh03q40onu5t47qhre2f/AFR-fopKeou_R3JikmUAXuQ?rlkey=0d9uucf5ixz253nwqj7ugamf5&st=ilxqmysn&dl=0(if I'm not supposed to put a link in the forum, please let me know and I will remove it) The quality is not as good as I hoped, but I guess a (cheap) cassette recording from 50+ years ago is better than nothing. NB it has been 'joined' to episode 1 (hence music at the start), and seems to run fast, but I didn't want to start playing around with audio software on it, so I have just got the original as it was. (if anyone is good with audio software and is keen on 'remastering' it, please do! And repost the improved version) I'm pleased I'm able to share this with fellow fans!
