The memoirs of Oreste Pinto, counter-intelligence. I know and love this series as a 24-part radio show, but I understand it was a tv show as well? Must've been quite early so I don't hold out much hope of its survival, but any light you chaps can shed on the archive status of 'Spycatcher' would be appreciated ta, Ben Critchley

The BBC TV version ran from 1959 to 61 in four series of 24 episodes. Of these, 4 exist from the first series, all 7 from the second, one from the third and nothing from the fourth. All are 35mm film recordings and enough is left for a company like DD Video to do a good double disc DVD release.

Wow thanks, 17 minutes is beyond prompt!
12 episodes means I'm pleasantly surprised, I expect one or two. It seems odd that one whole series exists and yet another is completely gone, but from lurking lots on these boards I've learnt that archives can always surprise. thanks again!

Seems likely in common with other programmes of that time that the missing episodes were on VT and wiped or simply live, with the other odd episodes plus one whole series pre-telerecorded on 35mm as masters for broadcast that way.

The new Kaleidoscope BBC drama guide will have the correct details...

I'm unsure how they all came to be listed as 35mm, as it looks like only one episode as you mention was pre-recorded on film. This is a pity because a set of master 35mm film recordings would have looked much better than 16mm.

Series 3 consisted of 6 episodes rather than 7. 04-10-60 Left Luggage 11-10-60 The Photograph 18-10-60 Neutral Ground 25-10-60 Margin Of Error 01-11-60 Happy Landings 08-11-60 Spitfire Johnny Any idea when the 4th series episodes "Stooping to Conquer" and "The Lisbon Run" were broadcast? There seemed to be some difficulty finding them in the Radio Times. For what it's worth, the radio episodes also total "26". Two series of 13, broadcast in 1960 & 1961.

Yes, you're right there were only 6 episode in series 3, I miscounted. The first two episodes in series 4 were transmitted on 2/5/61 and 9/5/61, they had been videotaped earlier in the year and replaced another series that was billed (whose name escapes me for the moment), which seems never to have been shown.
