I have been re-reading the first edition of Richard Molesworth's book Wiped! and it states (p. 209) that in the early Eighties, Film Print Examiner Ian Sheward witnessed the destruction of a batch of Doctor Who 16mm prints that had recently been returned from an overseas broadcaster, in defiance of Sue Malden's instructions. Do we know which episodes this was and from which broadcaster? Thanks

No Singapore either sent it's copies to Nigeria over 73 or 74, or depending on the stories returned it's season 3 stories by at least 73, and the rest, TP and Troughton by by early 74.
I think the assumption that these were Pertwee black and white
By 1981, the only countries where for some reason prints were not returned in 74/75 were these
Ethiopia, no confirmation of what happened to theirs if not sent back after transmission Kenya Thailand Mexico but they had nothing that was not in library
We know good reasons why Cyprus, Nigeria and Tomb in HK were missed

Oh and Uganda, and those were likely shared with Kenya, and Mauritius which likely shared those with those two or Zambia
Could have been one of these stations but definitely not Singapore

Thanks for the info. If they were Pertwee black and white copies it lessens the offence somewhat, as they already had a complete set of these from seasons 7-10 by the early 80s, as well as some just returned in colour. The book implies they were missing episodes that would otherwise have been saved.

One of the many DWM features on archive holdings mentions some surviving B/W filmed inserts were junked as late as the early 1980s.

The book does not apply that whatsoever. The individual saw prints being destroyed, it has really been confirmed they were Pertwee
I don't know the dates but Kenya has stated it made a call to the BBC about old prints of various programmes, at the latest 1986...
This is different from the 1997 call. That set was apparently season 1 and 2 past the Rescue, Kenya only bought up to The Rescue

Whatever was destroyed I haven't heard them saying what it was or who it was.
I'm thinking it's something that might be too painful to know

OK I wasn't sure what the situation was.
