Hello, I’m a long-time lurker who hopes to contribute a bit more in future. I hope I can be excused by starting with a bit of self-promotion in case this is of interest to any of you. I spent a good bit of time in recent months reading through 1980s Doctor Who fanzines’ coverage of missing episodes, particularly around rumours. I’ve written two articles about this – the aim is to highlight the nature pre-internet written discourse on the subject, work out which rumours had a clear origin, which can be (or have been) debunked outright, and just to have some fun with some of the silliness which attached to the subject – then as now. Please do take a look if this sounds like your cup of tea. Both parts are on my Doctor Who blog here: abriefinterregnum.substack.com/I must emphasise that there are no genuine ‘leads’ here. Most of the rumours are nonsense and those that aren’t already led to recoveries. If anyone finds this interesting and would like to see the 1990s covered similarly, let me know. I’d like to do it but it’s a big job as, with the TV series off-air, fanzines went big on missing episodes rumours instead of production news/rumours.
