Where are we at now with the missing episode returns?
Who is looking for material? How many teams or individuals?
Who are we waiting on to produce results?
97 missing episodes seem an incredible amount, hard to believe for Doctor Who? Such a long time with no news now.
Any light at the end of the tunnel?
Anyone with any good news?

Here’s some good (if old) news.
Philip Morris says he knows of collectors with six, or maybe 7, episodes that for one reason or another they’re not willing to share with the public. Unspecified why, probably because they’re afraid of getting into legal trouble, they don’t want to deal with the BBC, or they’re just playing selfish.
Philip Morris has not said any titles.
Or if one of these 6 episodes is the stolen episode 3 of The Web of Fear.
Sometime during the six months of negotiations with Nigeria about getting the episodes back, episode three went missing. It may or may not be a coincidence, but it is the first episode we see the face of. Lieutenant-Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart. In an earlier episode, he had been seen from behind, and played by a different actor.
Philip Morris has said while he suspects episode three was stolen to resell to a collector, he is not sure what happened to it.

Thank you, Ken.

I’m not sure there’s much new here. iirc both PM and PV are on record saying that they’re aware of DW MEs held by collectors, and then there’s WoF3. However, we’ve never had any indication as to what these are and, as importantly, whether they’ve verified that they are, indeed, MEs. Anyone can claim to have TP4, missing parts of the Crusade, Space Pirates, etc, etc but unless someone we all trust has satisfied themselves that’s what claimed actually exist they could well be another Darren Gregory.

Ah, Darren Gregory! Now there’s a name from the past! Is he still about?

Anyone with any good news? Why not adopt the glass half full outlook and be grateful for what we have? I recall a time when probably the four most missed stories - Power, Evil, Tomb and Web were all completely gone except Web 1. Not a second of Tomb survived and the chances of recovery due to the number of sales seemed next to zero. We now have two of those stories back (minus one episode) and I can watch Tomb anytime I want! Of course I acknowledge that for younger fans Tomb has - in their eyes - always been there.

Philip Morris says he knows of collectors with ... episodes that for one reason or another they’re not willing to share with the public. Unspecified why, probably because... I don't know, Ken, if you've seen last year's thread where we talked about the reasons why film collectors might be unwilling to lend out their material. I just feel as though the suggestions you've made are ones I'd hoped we've moved on from. Here's a link to the thread and it should open on Paul Vanezis' post on the subject: "The Independent - Lost Doctor Who episodes are ‘out there' " - missingepisodes.proboards.com/post/173329/threadHis particular explanation boils down to: Can a collector ever be sure that if they lend out material from their collection they will get it back? Ultimately, if one film collector goes ahead and lends the BBC their film, we are going to be grateful to them for their generosity. In the meantime, it's best to talk about them with respect.

Ah, Darren Gregory! Now there’s a name from the past! Is he still about? I loved Greg H’s signature line of “I smell Darren Gregory ……….” I see Greg hasn’t posted in several years - I do hope he’s ok. Always brought something wry to any discussion.

I got into the full history of Doctor Who not long after Tomb was discovered, I remember one book on the series expressing gratitude that some episodes of The Ice Warriors had recently been found. It wasn't until I found a copy of Dr Who: A Celebration that I learnt what was missing or not, though since it was published a few episodes were found, including all of The Time Meddler & The War Machines.

Aa time goes on, we exhaust places we can look
Also , people and archives could disappear through death, closure and various occurrences. When the missing episode hunt started it was apx 5 years after their believed destruction. Now it's apx 50.. over two generations past the occurrence and the world has changed a lot since then
Would be great to find more. While the last unexpected find was amazing, being 10 years since the last recovery, and pm having gone through his leads, in the future, it could be an occasional find at best.
Hope more show up.. unless someone responsible says they saw something in a private collection, I don't put my trust in braggers

I recently finished watching Hartnell and Troughton complete (with the Loose Cannon recons standing in for the missing episodes - not the animations, which leave me cold). This is about the third time I've done that, plus watching them all on VHS/DVD as I got them, plus seeing them all for real first time round (I'm 70).
I guess it's possible that more episodes will appear in my lifetime, or that AI will create something better than recons or annimations, and if so I look forward to it. However, I wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has made it possible for us to have come this far. I sat back as the last episode of the War Games concluded with a sense of fulfillment, and air of contentment and a pang of childhood nostalgia.

He watched ALL the Dr Who eps now missing and can't understand why we want them back. He thinks the whole AI reconstruction thing is part of "a modern world gone mad". On a brighter note, which of the Troughton Dalek stories did you find most entertaining at the time of transmission, Rob?

I remembered Evil better, so I guess that one. I think it must have been the variety of settings in time and space. Funnily enough, although I didn't at the time, I now live just down the road from Grim's Dyke.
