Interesting...
It does however state...
"I DON'T HAVE A BETA PLAYER TO CHECK THEM OUT, SO THEY ARE GOING AS-SEEN.
PLEASE EMAIL ME ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE."
(I'm not shouting! I just copied and pasted!)
I doubt very much the seller will have any idea of the tapes contents but I do wish you luck and that he may have a little more info on them.

Deffinitely, But I also think that people think about sending this guy many messages about this item, they might disappear, as what happened in the past. If there is something here, we need to tread softly. I look forward to hearing further info on this lead.

I saw those as well. Maybe it is possible the cases were reused, and the tepe may not contain what the box states. Maybe that is why the seller is stating sold as seen. Has anyone who has contacted this seller heard back yet ?

Possible E-bay "find"? On Betamax HD tapes? As in Hi-Def? ???What does one expect to find on them? "A for Andromeda"? "Doomwatch - Survival"? "Muffin the Mule"?

Surprising enough, many people still have beta-max machines. But they are now a collectors item, however there seem to be plenty of them around, good for spare parts.
I have found an article on the net that states that ITV and other major UK broadcasters used telerecordings to show for new producers. Is is possible some of these producers took material home for study ? I mean, look at what Galton and Simpson did with that Shibaden machine. Had it not been for them, the series of Steptoe and Son would be a lost one.
This is just a idea I had, based on the facts I gathered from the Internet. If I am wrong, please tell me. If you agree or disagree, I would like to hear your comments either way. All I ask is that people try to keep an adult tone. Please no more fighting. Let me know what you guys think.

I disagree and would also like to add: Beware the Internet! It's far from a reliable research resource...

Probably worth noting that those look like Beta*cam* tapes, not Betamax...

Wouldn't telerecordings be 16mm film prints? I doubt many ITV or BBC employees had 16mm projectors at home. I think the 'Steptoe' Shibaden recovery was a one-off. Come to think of it, was the machine involved a Shibaden? I don't recall off-hand.

I'm sick to death of all this ebay tat. One bloke on there is dubbing from tv pop shows onto old reel to reels and flogging them to unsuspecting punters. he claims his Uncle taped them off the telly; remarkable as the chronology is all wrong. He also must have spent considerable lengths of time in Sweden and the U.S.A. as there are Popside and shindig shows on there,. This kind of fraud has to stop!

Probably worth noting that those look like Beta*cam* tapes, not Betamax... True. But people routinely re-used Betacam tapes in their home Betamax machines. A 20 minute tape was the equivalent of an L500. A 30 minute tape an L750! Almost certainly ex news tapes recorded over in the mid 1980's. Cheers, Paul

The old light blue Betacam tapes are ok in a Betamax , but the dark blue MP (metal particle) tapes are a definite no no in a Betamax machine, they will tear the heads to pieces.
