Hello All,
The year of 2006 is coming to an end. However, we have much to be thankfull for as far as recoveries go. There have been episodes of Boyd QC, Sierra Nine, A for Andromeda, Out Of The Unknown, and The Hippodrome Show have been recovered. There have also been other clip finds, as well as audio finds.
However a shadow lays across the recoveries. It seems like several people like to get fans riled about something they posess, only to be proves as a liar, and a hoaxer. There was the elaborate Marco Polo Hoax, The Mighty Kublai Kahn Posting, more recently 10th Planet 4 ? However the last one is under observation, could be some truth there, however the consensus is that it couls be another hoax. I hope that the consensus is wrong, and that the last Hartnell episode has indeed been located, I sure hope so. However fans have come to be skeptical about such things. All that being said, I believe that hoaxers will keep on at it. The trhill of disappointing fans gives them a perverse thrill so it seems. Why can't they just go out and do drugs or drink, not pester people who are genuinely concerned for these old episodes of television. That day of rest may be a long way off, I hope that it is not for all our sakes. I just thought I would state all that, and see if other members or guests have anything else they might like to contribute. Please try to keep all your postings on a civil level.
Cheers, Lance.

I think more missing material will surface, though probably not in great quantities. I also think that there will always be hoaxes, especially in relation to 'Doctor Who'. It's an easy target, as any whisper of a recovery will start a debate, however cynical. As for 'Tenth Planet' 4, I'll believe it when it's announced by the BBC.

Personally, I'd rather people continued making missing episode hoaxes than become an alcoholic and/or an addict. Maybe that's just me.

I'd hesistate to call 2006 "the year of the hoaxers" - yes, there have been hoaxes, but I don't think that the number this year has been greatly increased over previous years. The Wall of Lies was an unusual one in that it was a long con, played out over months, but really it's mostly been business as usual.
The trick is to ensure that no matter how many hoaxes come our way that we are not put off by them. As soon as the hoaxers make you give up, they have won, and hoaxers can not win.

I'm with Ash on this one. There really haven't been that many more this year than in past years.

However I'd be inclined to call 2006 the "Year of Idiotic and Ridiculous Episode Recovery Suggestions"...

All of the examples quoted are from a certain series therfore I fail to see why this thread is in the General TV forum and not that devoted to Dr Who. So no, this is not a particularly active year for missing tv hoaxes as such. The fact is that Dr Who appeals to a lot of sad people who have nothing better to do than to start these rumours which are swallowed every time by equally sad & gulible fans. You only have to look at some of the postings in the recent Tenth Planet thread to see what I mean. Why this old chestnut is comanding such attention is beyond me. Anyone with an interest in this can see it has "wind up" written all over it.
