THE DAVE CLARK FIVE'S TV & FILM APPEARANCES
This is an updated version of a list which first appeared in the book ‘Channelling The Beat!’. All performances listed in BOLD are known to still survive, either in TV vaults or private collections. Dates, unless specified otherwise, refer to broadcast dates; taping dates for pre-recorded shows have been added when known. Occasionally, shows were broadcast on more than one date, in different regions of the UK; in these cases, the earliest known date is listed. For concert footage, the dates of the actual concerts are shown, with broadcast dates added where known. Generally, only actual performances are listed, not interviews, documentaries or news report. If anyone has any additional info, no matter how trivial, then please let me know!
00-00-61 - ‘Rag Doll’ (Butcher's Film Service - UK): Instrumental / Why Am I Living [with Jess Conrad]
(Re-titled ‘Young, Willing and Eager’ in the USA)
00-00-61 - ‘Pit Of Darkness’ (Butcher's Film Service - UK): Various Instrumentals / My Heart Is The Lover [with Ronnie Hall]
(The line-up on the above two low-budget Movie cameos are Dave Clark (drums), Mike Smith (keyboards), Rick Huxley (bass), Mick Ryan (guitar) and Jim Spencer (flute and bongos) - the latter two to be later replaced by Lenny Davidson and Dennis Payton of course. Both Movie cameos were filmed on the same set on the same day)
20-04-63 - ‘Thank Your Lucky Stars’ (ABC - UK): The Mulberry Bush
20-09-63 - ‘Ready Steady Go!’ (Rediffusion - UK): Do You Love Me
(Sadly, no footage of The Dave Clark Five on ‘Ready Steady Go!’ is known to survive. When excerpts from shows were rebroadcast in the ‘80s and ‘90s, performances by the group were included. However, these were actually from ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ and other TV shows, NOT ‘Ready Steady Go!’ - something that has confused collectors and archivists ever since)
