By the 70s the show was always prerecorded so there must have been an edited 2 inch tape for each for broadcast which had everything mixed together on it. So how did we end up being left with tapes that have mute DJ links? Have those tapes been returned from overseas broadcasters?
However the 25 Feb 1971 tape seems to be an unedited master from the studio with all the takes on it and the links by Jimmy Savile are mute on this. So how come?
I'm interested in how the show was put together in the 70s. They were shooting it in segments and editing it together later from a much earlier date than I realised. I believe quad tape only had two audio tracks so on the master tapes audio of the DJ must have been put on one track and the music on the other.
