Is this the first time we have seen that Something promo in colour. Some excellent footage and references to stuff we lost.

I also like the colourisation of All You Need Is Love. I know some people hate colourisation and true a better version could be done especially on the flesh tones with today's tech.

I thought it was a great collection of clips obviously filled out a little by extra things like the intertel promos from 1965 but good to them there as well. I was astounded to see a couple of songs from 'It's The Beatles' 7th Dec 1963, which appears to be well known but was completely new to me. Certainly it didn't feature on the Anthology and I don't think on the Ron Howard film. Marvellous of them to show it despite the little bit of tape damage near the start. I was hoping to see the early edit of 'Something ' in b&w from 13/11/69 TOTP but it was the final colour promo shown in the Anthology ep.6 that was shown which is fair enough. Missing John's appearance on 'Tonight' from 1965 but great to see his appearances on 'Not Only But Also'. His siloloqui in the studio had been shown on 'The Rock 'n' Roll Years' 1965. The other surprise was the 'Grandstand' clip part of which was also shown on the 1964 'Rock 'n' Years' and partly on Grandstand's 40th anniversary show in 1998. Here we got the full introduction and even the continuity announcement. A wonderful extra. The new single; I love it. Maybe it isn't up there with the Fabs best (though I'd take it over quite a few 'White Album' tracks) but it just has that generosity of spirit that is totally The Beatles. You can feel it all through the single. I welled up watching the moment in the video when all the images of the lads went backwards and little John in his school cap smiling at us. As a goodbye they couldn't have possibly done it better.

Also about the 'Liverpool at the BBC' show that followed, marvellous to see the clip of 'Ferry Cross The Mersey' from 7th Jan 1965 TOTP. Intrigued to see the promo for Ringo's 'It Don't Come Easy' captioned as being from 'Cilla in Scandinavia' from Nov '71 when the same promo also features on 29th April '71 TOTP. Looking at a part of the Cilla show it looks like the clip was filmed specially for that.
