;D ;DDoes anyone remember a tv play done either late 70s or early 80s set in a Yorkshire village there was a scene where some councillers were canvassing for votes, when one of the opposition told them to go to this particular house where they said the guy who lived there would definetly vote for them but they would have to bang on the door has the person who lived there was deaf. Anyway this they did but a big guy with tatoos came out and chased them up the road , obviously it was all a scam , I just remember this being a very funny scene.? Phil .

The play you're talking about is "Way Upstream" by Alan Aykborn and it's bloody brill. The third party you mention was Vince played by Stuart Wilson, he joins them onboard and is a little more than a "know it all" he's more like the devil incarnate. The plays narrative turns from merry hokum into something deeply sinister. Not sure about this, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't out on vhs or maybe even dvd.

Way Upstream originally started as a Nation Theatre play. The stage was flooded (when things went right) for the boat to sail (ie be winched) along!!!! The heavy rain dropped the temperature in the theatre a lot, or so it seemed. After all who takes a themometor to the theatre.
