I was reading a feature that mentioned the original screenings of this show had different title sequences to what they had being being repeated, but the original has been restored to some prints.
One features the cast in a graveyard, while the other uses clips & an orange tinted hand, but I'm not sure which one was the original.

They were known as the graphic or graveyard titles. The graveyard titles were the originals as far as the UK was concerned used in the 1960s/70s screenings. The graphic titles turned up from the 1980s onwards. A possible explanation is the graveyard titles explained that Marty was a ghost ..which by the 1980s viewers were so familiar with the show they didn't need to know this. The graveyard titles were shot by the crew but the graphic titles were made by title company Chambers & Partners. This is the graveyard titles used in the UK but this clip is the USA version 'My partner, the ghost'

What i found confusing back then was that they mixed the titles for both US & UK using the graveyard & Chambers and Partners.

Yes I think it was the intention to use the graphic titles from the start and the graveyard titles was a last minute rush job maybe prompted by a buyer saying something like "we need to explain why Marty is in a white suit"

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the 'Graveyard' intro (complete with Marty's voice explaining that only Jeff could see him) - which includes the final part of the graphic intro re the Dennis Spooner and Monty Berman credits - was used on the UK episodes however the later 'Graphic' intro in full duly appeared on the latter episodes in the run - which ties in with the idea that later on everyone knew why Marty wore an all white suit etc...
Later ALL episodes were re-edited to feature the 'Graphic' opening only - possibly this was done as both the show was already established by then and it might have been viewed as a wiser option to go fully with the 'Graphic' opening as some might have later begun complaining re the intro in a graveyard being seen as disrespectful (you will always get someone moan !) so to play safe they quietly made the switch over to just the 'Graphic' intro to avoid any such issues later arising (?)
