DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE ENTIRE SERIES OF "THE MULTI-COLOURED SWAP SHOP" STILL EXIST IN THE BBC ARCHIVE?
"I HOPE NOT" I HEAR YOU CRY?
I FOR ONE HOPE IT DOES! I USED TO LOVE GETTING UP EARLY ON A SATURDAY MORNING (HANGOVER PERMITTING) AND TUNING IN..
I'M SURE THE BBC COULD MAKE A BRILLIANT COMPILATION DVD OF THE GROUPS THAT FEATURED ON THE PROGRAMME OVER THE YEARS.....(DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH)
I REMEMBER SEEING THE HUMAN LEAGUE AND DEPECHE MODE FEATURED AMONGST OTHERS.
THANKS FOR LOOKING.

Afraid not - there are very few surviving from the first few years, though they get more common later in the run. As a live programme not every edition was originally recorded off air.

Why are all your replies in CAPITALS. It's as if your'e shouting at us! I know that some people are loud-mouthed but to put your e-mails and replies to websites in CAPITALS is just taking the biscuit! No offence intended.

Talking of Swap Shop, I notice that over Christmas, BBC2 are re-uniting the Swap Shop crew for a one off "special" looking back at this and Superstore, Going Live etc.... The production company are looking for people who have appeared on Swap Shop - I love the questionnaire I've seen - which says something like "if you appeared on the show (either in studio or phone) can you remember when it was so we can track down the original footage" !!!!!! Ha ha! They'll be lucky!!! Like Andrew says above, the early years are very poorly represented indeed.... Mind you, I was going to ask this: Is this just me, or can anyone at remember a trailer for the first Swap Shop back in 1976? If my memory is not playing tricks on me, I seem to recall Noel Edmonds driving up in a sports/racing car - removing his crash helmet and telling us about the show ..... this I think would have been 16mm film... I bet of course, it doesn't survive - but - just out of interest I wonder if anyone else can remember this Paul

I also vaguely remember a still caption that was used to promote the show just before it started (probably the week before); it may have consisted of a line of cheerleaders holding up letters spelling "SWAP SHOP" but I can't remember any further details than that.

David...
Yes, now you come to mention it, the cheerleaders holding up the letters SWAP SHOP also rings a bell with me...
It's so strange that I remember that racing car type trailer (I did wonder if I dreamt it!) - thing is, back in 1976, I would only have been 6 years old - isn't it amazing what you can remember - ie a trailer for a, then, unknown tv show....... at the age of six!!!!
Be interesting if anyone can shed any more light on this... as I say, I bet it doesn't exist in any form at all .....

This is were they were taped all those years ago with a younger looking Noel Edmunds taking a look around VT at Television Centre circa 1977. www.vtoldboys.com/ssvt2.htm#mid click on pics to run clips.
