Apologies for starting a new thread here. What is the main difference between the new version of some Pertwee episodes and those previously released on DVD and issued again on the blu ray releases. Am I right in my thinking that the dvd versions have more picture information around the edges due to the black and white film prints capturing more information. The new versions have better overall picture quality. Thanks for any responses on this one as a bit confused

DVD - NTSC copies with Reverse Standards Conversion = Larger frame, but slightly fuzzy quality.
BLU-RAY - B/W film recordings cleaned and VidFIRE’d combined with NTSC colour signal = Slightly smaller frame, but better overall quality.

I'm hoping the "smaller frame" size will at least be roughly comparable with what would've been visible in the 1970s on a CRT telly in the UK, with the usual overscan area obscured?

NTSC - Never Twice the Same Colour…… Only when tranmitted not on VT. The color (well it's a US system) changes were due to phase distortions in the path of the signals from tranmitter to receiver, IIRC.

NTSC - Never Twice the Same Colour…… Only when tranmitted not on VT. The color (well it's a US system) changes were due to phase distortions in the path of the signals from tranmitter to receiver, IIRC. There were a lot of factors in why it was never the same color twice. The broadcast engineer at the station adjusted the color to what he/she thought looked good for broadcast using a color test pattern. The person who adjusted the color on the monitor at the station (which the Broadcast engineer used) choose what he/she thought looked good. The Person at the manufacturer of the monitor that the station used adjusted the monitors internal color parameters to what they thought looked good. Then the color can be distorted during broadcast for several reasons. Multipath was one reason. Channel frequency and distance were also factors Then the manufacturer of the TV set you use at home was internally adjusted by someone who thought it looked good to them. Then the home user would adjust their set to what they thought was good color on their tv set. ----------------------- This problem was really obvious when several tv stations broadcasted the same exact program at the exact same time. Such as a Presidential speech. You could see the differences in color as you switched channels. Each Engineer at each station having a slightly different feel to what good color looked like to them. NTSC VT color could also be effected between dubs for similar reasons. Human adjustment etc...

Only just found out Australia was ditching a physical release for the Season 9 blu ray. The news is obviously months old but what a shock I got while waiting for Fandom or anywhere to produce a Oz release date to find out only today. forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=360443

Mark, it's 2023, not 1993 or even 2003.
