Dear all,
Usually missing from TOTP databases are the interviews / chats with that week's host that seemd to appear briefly in autumn 1970.
A letter of complaint by a viewer in the NME in October 1970 referred to a Kris Kristofferson chat (possibly on 3rd September 1970), Humble Pie on the same show where one of the band (probably Steve Marriott) referred to Tony Blackburn as "Eamnonn" and a chat with Randy Newman, possibly with Savile on 24th September 1970.
The Humble Pie appearance must have been fairly well known about at the time judging by the comments in the music press. The following week Disc magazine claim "Beautiful mickey-take of Tony Blackburn by Humble Pie on Top Of The Pops last week." A letter in the same publication in the 19th September complained "On Top Of The Pops (3.9.70) in front of millions, Mr. Blackburn received a most distasteful snub at the hands of a bunch of yobos by the collective name of Humble Pie." Beat International magazine in 1974 claimed "There was the time, for instance, when Humble Pie went on Top Of The Pops and didn't take it quite as seriously as the authorities at the BBC might have hoped for. Consequently they were immediately banned from the programme."
Anyone remember these? I don't!

Don’t remember these but do remember Steve Marriott making little effort to mime to Tin Soldier in his Small Faces days finally kicking the mic stand over as the song ended.

I remember Canned Heat being interviewed. Also the actor Henry Darrow who played Manolito in High Chaperral. I suspect it was a way of having people from the USA on the programme who couldn't perform due to work permit issues.

There was at least one other, from June 1970. According to Disc music paper "Excruciating interview by Tony Blackburn with Mason Williams on “Top Of The Pops.”"
