I seem to recall reading about this. The footage that was shot was of the "Hands in Space" project going wrong and many people dying. IF I'm right this footage was actually eventually used in the Euston films production Quatermass with Sir John Mills. I could be wrong but have a very clear memory that that is the case. Cheers Nolly.

I think the test footage was from 1973 , the magazine i have JUST IMAGINE and it dates from 1977, the photographs show Ian Scoones -Bernard Wilkie not Jack Kine {as i wrongly stated} they are working on a large scale model rocket. Also there is a photo of the inside of one of domes which housed the creatures. Ian Scoones states that he was asked to reconstruct one of the domes from QUATERMASS II as the BBC said they didnt have any shots of this sequence? .this was done for a nostalgia programme called THOSE WERE THE DAYS. Also may I just add a thank you to Nigel Kneale , ever since I first saw QUATERMASS & THE PIT on TV all those winters ago you were brilliant.

When I interviewed Ian back in 1990, he wasn't at all sure if they ever got as far as actually shooting any material for the BBC version of Quatermass IV. If they did get around to filming any of the model work, it's not currently known to exist and it's certainly not the material that appeared in the Euston Films version.

As anything turned up yet regards this episode yet ? This is the one in which Hancock finds something buried in his garden, a tribute to QUATERMASS AND THE PIT which had just finished at the time!
