Forgive me if this has been raised before on this forum, but how many 1970s-80s trailers for Doctor Who episodes are missing their visual/audio source?
One obvious example from the 70s is Day of the Daleks, for which neither audio nor visual exists.
Also, can anyone help here regarding the current status of these trailers: I once saw (before Grandstand, I believe) a trailer for Planet of Evil, with the Doctor falling into the pit. (At the time I believed I was watching a Doctor Who minisode!) This was the day of the episode 2 broadcast, not the trailer for the later repeat. I have never seen this since. Has the tape containing this trailer been wiped? Also, I saw Revelation of the Daleks trailed as part of the Saturday evening line up, and I believe this line-up was advertised on the Friday eve before? Has this Saturday line-up trailer also been wiped since?

The Doctor Who A Celebration book by Peter Haining mentions a trailer with Daleks around famous London landmarks. It was briefly discussed on here before - missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/11787/day-daleks-trailer-on-audio- with a possible broadcast date given of 28 Dec 1971. I've read somewhere that the trailer played on the end of The Daemons repeat that day? Interestingly, nothing is mentioned about a trailer on the Day of the Daleks page on Dalek6388 - www.dalek6388.co.uk/day-of-the-daleks/It's an interesting question, I've never seen or heard of any photos or paperwork that evidence such a trailer being filmed?

That wasn’t a trailer for Day of the Daleks. It was a trailer for Radio Times featuring about 25 seconds worth of material of the Daleks around the Tower of London and Westminster Bridge.

Okay, thank you, I hope it's discovered it someday. Very unlikely. Radio Times trailers were seldom kept after their broadcast and those that were were all skipped when Lime Grove closed down over 30 years ago.

I saw what I have always thought, up until this point, was a trailer for Day Of The Daleks. I guess it must have been the Radio Times trailer, but I have no memory of the Radio Times being mentioned, and I remember it as a trailer for the programme. Obviously it was a long time ago though. I think I would have most likely seen it at the end of Childrens' programming on BBC1 before the news, but of course I could be wrong about that.

I remember being annoyed at missing that as my school friend told me it had featured Daleks crossing a bridge. I watched intently for it but think it might only have been shown late at night or only once. That was an exciting week as we eagerly awaited the return of the Daleks on the Saturday after what seemed an eternity.

That was an exciting week as we eagerly awaited the return of the Daleks on the Saturday after what seemed an eternity. There were three versions of the Radio Times trailer and they were each shown once in days preceding the first episode of Day of the Daleks. It was first shown at 18:58 on Wednesday 29 December 1971, voiced by Dick Graham and lasted 1'10" including 25-seconds of the specially shot Dalek footage. The second version was shown on Thursday 30 December, voiced by John Braban and lasting 52" with 11-seconds of Dalek footage. The final version was transmitted on Friday 31 December at 21:14, again voiced by John Braban with 17-seconds of Dalek footage. And for Andy, having checked, there was a separate trailer for Day of the Daleks, narrated by John Braban and shown at 11:20 on the day Episode 1 was shown, lasting 40-seconds, using material from the episode.

There was certainly a trailer for Episode 1 of the following serial Curse of Peladon. It was brief featuring the scene where the Dr and Jo are hiding in the castle and witness Ssorg pass by and possibly the Tardis falling from the cliff. This might have been after DOTD4 or during the following week. I'm sure a similar trailer was shown for the repeat in the Dr Who and the Monsters season ten years later.
