I'm now well into transferring all worthwile material onto DVD. Some items, like complete Monty Python episodes(1987 BBC1 reruns)RSG ,from channel 4 1985,and the UK gold TOTP'S I know are worth keeping. A lot of stuff isnt really, feature films, series like Auf Weidisein pet readily avalible on DVD. Some programmes have aged badly, like the may 1983 episode of "3 of a kind"only saved by a Phil Collins appearance(with hair!) I've compiled adverts and continuity announcments from the 1982 -85 tapes, but what sort of stuff should I NOT be junking?

You would be very foolish to junk any videotapes. As discussed on this forum many times, DVD home recording is very much in it's infancy. Your dvd data could all have disappeared in years to come, including your continuity collection.
I have vhs tapes recorded from Southern TV in 1980, and they play as good as the day they were recorded, having been stored properly. DVD is untested - can it survive for 26 years? Who knows?
A lot of people who have junked tapes may live to regret it very much.

Yes! transfer them to a convinient format by all means, but there is no reason at all (unless you have severe space limitations?) to throw them away. VHS machines are cheap at the moment, so many people are just buying them to store with their tapes.

The main problem is that I have 300 or so tapes.Add them to my record/CD collection(been collecting since 1965,but safely stored in the house)plus ever growing amounts of DVD's/books,mean the poor old VHS tapes are stored in boxes in the garage. We only have a 2 bed semi. So all the time they are out there they are deteriating. Some of the early 80's tapes have faded colour and a washed out quality.Only wish I had a big mansion of a place to keep everything though.Dvd's take up much less room.

I've just come up with an idea! You will have needed to join MHP Private Parts for this! If you haven't, it's free & EASY! Find the webbie (website) here!: pp.meldrum.co.uk/login.asp?autologon=NYou could copy the continuity announcements & certain clips of Phil Collins (with hair that is!) to DVD & then upload them to the computer. From there you can upload them to MHP PP & I don't think you have to have a hosting provider (like imageshack.us). What does everyone else think of this idea? (Civil comments please). I'm not in the mood today for people telling me to f-off with asterisks covering up the remaining three letters of that word or people telling me to go out & learn things in childish ways.
