Tough to see him go. They threw the mould away and there'll never again be swagger, arrogance, and talent like the man with the pumpin' piano.

What a thrill it would've been to see him live. My Mum and Dad were at the infamous appearance at Kempton Park in 1968 where he was the penultimate act on the Friday night behind headliners The Herd (Dad has recalled it being Status Quo but I've checked and it was Peter Frampton and Co). The rockers there in large numbers went nuts that the killer wasn't closing the evening. Dad recalls scaffolding poles being chucked stage wards. His favourite memory of the evening was him and mum standing next to a willowy, innocent looking girl watching (I'm assuming) The Marmalade with her boyfriend who suddenly yelled; "Oi,what's this f***ing stinky plops???" or something similar.

Thankyou corrective text! That was far funnier than what she actually said.

Trivia note: Jerry's bass player for that concert was Chas Hodges!

I'm not surprised Chas & Dave were sessionists & members of touring bands for years before becoming a duo.

I got confused when I started to read tributes a couple of days after I read he had passed away. After checking the net, apparently some media outlets were hoaxed in to an early announcement.

I've a new book out on Jerry Lee Lewis if anyone's interested...
JERRY LEE LEWIS
BREATHLESS!
EVERY SONG FROM EVERY SESSION, 1952-2022
In the summer of 1952, a 16 year-old Jerry Lee Lewis traveled from Ferriday, Louisiana, to New Orleans, and cut a Demo record. In April 2022, a frail 86 year-old Jerry Lee Lewis, suffering from the debilitating effects of a stroke 3 years earlier, taped a Gospel album with his cousin Jimmy Lee Swaggart in Baton Rouge. It was his final recording. When he passed away a few months later, almost inevitably, the obituaries focused on his often controversial personal life. Peter Checksfield met Jerry Lee Lewis several times, and befriended family members and musicians associated with him. He draws on these experiences, as well as nearly half a century of collecting and concerts, to create the definitive guide to The Music. Encompassing Rock ānā Roll, Country, Blues, Pop Standards, Gospel and just about everything in between, this book will leave you BREATHLESS!!!
