It’s paywalled but the headline and the few lines I saw implies that there will be American input. The other articles I’ve read are saying it’s just distribution rights that Disney is involved in. Maybe more money for a budget but no creative input.
I don’t think DW is being Americanized.

I really hope they don't get everyone wearing plaid and T-shirts like you see on the American imports on C4-makes me want to switch off immediately.Every extra will be dressed like this. And all the humour will start to rely on sarcasm which is what 95% of American comedy seems to rely on judging by what I've seen over the years.So unfunny. and the speech patterns will start to resemble the robotic and pedantic tones of the various post original Star Trek series of the 80s,90s and 2000s... |

The question is what does it mean by being british?
The values of the BBC today appear completely different than what we experienced when they created amazing dramas in the 1960s-1980s
Im not interested in the modern agendas. Im looking for quality dramas that are not pushing agendas that may be harmful to children.
Neither modern bbc nor modern disney appear to be agendas that im comfortable with.
I hope Im wrong.

The BBC has always had close links with Disney. Remember Disneytime? Wasn't that said to be as a result of the early days when Disney was the only/one of few film companies that would provide films to BBC?
I reckon Russell T Davies will completely destroy it this time. It will be no loss to me as I haven't watched it since the first year or so of the reboot and I don't really think of it as the show I grew up with.
There have been many commercial decisions I haven't liked over the years. Such as repeats of Doctor Who being used to push pay channels while they were rarely seen on the main BBC channels. Also things such as the 1980s Miss Marple series only being out on Bluray in the USA.

I reckon Russell T Davies will completely destroy it this time. For what it’s worth agreed. It’s also ironic that so many fans are excitedly heralding RTD’s comeback as a return to Nu WHO’s glory days when Rusty‘s been on the sidelines publicly cheering on pretty every bad, audience-alienating decision the show’s made in recent years! Tennant’s (temporary) return is as cynical as it is desperate too. Rusty/the Beeb have spun it as mere necessity dictated by scheduling conflicts - Nacuti Gatwa is currently filming, er, Barbie: The Movie (  ) apparently . Highly convenient excuses aside though it’s obvious why the rebooted show’s most popular Doctor is coming back and it has little to do with any scheduling issues.
Overall it’s all been a slow, sad death really and now that Disney of all creatively-ossified monsters is apparently going to exert ‘creative’ input one suspects the show is finally going to receive its (arguably long overdue) coup de grâce.Shame, but in the current oppressive climate merely inevitable perhaps. |

Can I just say that the start of the new Doctor Who contains, in my opinion, some of the best stories of the entire run, old series included. By all means, feel free to slag "RTD", but don't forget what he did in 2005.
Don't get me wrong, I love finding fault in everything just as much as the next man. It's just that I found plenty of faults in old DW too. I watched all episodes and I often had to take breaks because it was so boring, dated, internally inconsistent, and bandwagon-y.

Its all-too easy to look back on the old Who as a golden age while rubbishing the post-2005 series. The memory cheats, as someone once said. I enjoyed the 2005-2009 run, and felt let down in 2010 when Moffat took over and pretty much ruined it. It got back on track in 2017 when Chibnall reintroduced coherent storylines and characters. 'Flux' was an unfortunate throwback to the Moffat era. The last couple of episodes were really good however and I'm looking forward to R.T.D.'s return.
