this has probably been discussed before but here goes. have people with fave tv shows 'recorded at home' encountered top and tailing? it's where you start the recording early due to going out/not wanting to miss the start/tea being ready so catch minutes of the previous broadcast 'topping' or leaving tape to run on after the end of programme thus capturing the start of another programme. loads of people did this in the days before accurate recoring timing process - it aslo relies on manual / electric clocks being ready on time and set to correct time?
just an idea!

I do this all the time now - never used to... I'll start a recording just prior to the previous programmes credits starting to roll. And do basically the same, after the programme has finished. Only stop recording, once the next programme has run for a few seconds... This insures that I always get absolutely everything (and more, such as programme trailers, continuity etc... Sad or what! Never always done this though, and regret it now, as it would have been nice, to look back on, in years to come... It wasn’t always like this though, as I used to (try) and start a recording/programme just as it started, as I hated anything else on the tape, that wasn’t connected with the programme I was about to record. This would often result, of course, in me missing a very few seconds, of the beginning of the opening titles - as the VCR needed time, to get rolling... Wish I never done that now...
