Just spotted this which is being shown this evening : www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001b0ql - from the description it's possible that the Black Sabbath performance is the TOTP clip which turned up a few years ago.

Yes, there it was! A great thing to show on TV. So very welcome. Ozzy's voice so strong on this clip and love the ultra fast camera work jumping between the lead guitar and the bass. People say '70 was the highpoint of the show in terms of image and content and I don't think I'd disagree. More of these rare clips to come in the BBC's centenary year perhaps? Some great material on this programme. The one I most enjoyed was an absolutely wonderful clip of The Beat on 'Look! Here!', BBC Midlands, 5th Feb 1980. Complete with mild stage invasion at the end! I've had a look on YouTube and of course I might be wrong but I couldn't see any posting of it on there. Has that appeared anywhere since original broadcast? Also lovely to see another showing of 'Love and Affection' from 'Top of the Pops' rather than from 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' which is available on DVD. A really fine collection of clips. Only something from The Move's 'Colour Me Pop' appearance in Jan '69 other than "Blackberry Way' would've improved it for me.

Yes, pleased to see that "Paranoid" clip at last on TV. There were many interesting bands on TOTP that year and 1970 was very significant for me as I was getting into the things that were not easily fitting into the pop category. Performances by Juicy Lucy, Rare Bird, King Crimson, Fairfield Parlour, Blodwyn Pig, The Guess Who, Audience, Opus, Caravan, Stone The Crows, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Family were always exciting to see. Thankfully some have turned up but others remain lost, unfortunately. I agree that The Move were a baffling omission, something like "Beautiful Daughter" from Colour Me Pop would have been good. Also Steel Pulse could and should have been included. I could have done without Apache Indian and the irritating Toyah Wilcox but there you go.

Top of the Pops in 1970 does look so iconic from what survives. Interesting to me that the set design only seems to get relatively plain looking at the end of the year judging by the clip of The Kinks 'Apeman' from Dec '70 saved as an orphan repeat clip from the Tony Blackburn presented 7th Jan '71 edition. Interesting also just how much heavy stuff from late '70 has survived and been selected for showing on BBC. With 'Paranoid' last night I've now got three things from that period, the other two being Deep Purple 'Black Night' and The Rattles 'The Witch'. Watched in a row would, I'm sure, be an, um, heavy experience! Incidentally though not a great fan of the song, I think the Totp version of 'Black Night' is hugely superior to the single version! Love the 'Bumpers' double LP of that year that I bought as a teenager in the early '90s. Michael

Ps, it did tickle me to see Tony Blackburn introducing 'Love and Affection' on Totp in Oct '76 resplendent in an 'I Hate Diddy David Hamilton' sweatshirt. All for comic purposes of course but I think we can all say here that we love David for his sterling work presenting the 'Music Believed Wiped' events! Really hope to go to another one soon.

SO WAS IT JUST THE Paranoid clip that was found or was it a whole TOTP episode? Does anyone know how it was discovered and where it came from etc?? Great to see for the first time ever for me
