Heh heh. There's great truth in what you say, Hartley. We all get steamed up sometimes because of others hoarding treasures we selfishly want to see again but the above puts the situation into perspective and illustrates that there is more than one way of viewing the situation as to why so much missing stuff out there remains undiscovered.

Lawrence I dont hoard anything myself and I like to see stuff returned and freely on view in its best possible condition just like others , but at least you appreciate that we are all human and therefore there is a 1000 reasons for the status quo.

Instead of poster GH regarding Joe Bloggs and his private collection as a 'scumbag' . He should perhaps be concentrating on the large beaurocratic organisations who have loads of stuff that never gets seen and badgering them?

BTW well done to Dick Fiddy and his team for unearthing ' Miss Adventure' that surely is a great find this year?

Yes, i'm sure there aren't many of us here that actually WANT stuff to remain unseen and in private hands. But there are probably a million reasons why stuff isn't returned that we aren't party to. Worth considering. Also, I agree that the inaccessible official archives are the ones that should be looked at (in terms of having large amounts of both known and indeterminate material just sitting on shelves that could be made available more widely).

The MBW this year sounds good too. I think it's been a great year for recoveries myself; if we only ever had two recoveries per year of the calibre of OOTU and Andromeda in 2006 then it would still be very worthwhile! Quality rather than quantity.

Well, I'm sure that we'd all love to have lots of postings about recovered episodes, but sadly, people can only report what has been found. Apart from the hoaxers that is. In the meanwhile we are all interested to find out whether old shows that we remember still exist. Doesn't mean they'll ver get repeated, or released on VHS or DVD, but it's nice to know that they still exist.

I've been visiting this site now for a few years and have seen the quality of posts gradually decline. I don't want to have a go at the people who support this site but am I alone in thinking it's very nature is changing and shifting away from a real episode hunter's site?

These are all my own views and I would be interested to hear what anyone else, except that relentless spammer, thinks.

Which one? The person who keeps posting inane comments in Greek script, or the person who posts that Dr Who episodes have been found, and then links to porn?

I wish spam would stop filtering in ike this. Is there some way of setting up a filter? Also this year has been a good one as far as recoveries go. There have been a lot of episodes for Associated Rediffusion. Such as the earliest known episode of Boyd Q.C. and the mute episode of Sierra Nine, as well as a missing edition of Hippodrome. There has also been the find of Face of The Tiger ( A for Andromeda ep 6 ) and Level 7 of Out Of The Unknown ( Great series by the way, I love it ). There has also been that large audio find by the BBC. There have also been a great number of leads, and unfortunately hoaxes as well. Speaking bluntly, there has been quite a good ammount of activity this year. Also the BBC has also pushed thier search for locating missing programes, such as the Blue Peter appeal. All in all, a good year so far for reooveries in my opinion.

I'm confused about Out of the Trees. There was a clip from it featuring Simon Jones (talking about peonies) on Kevin Davies' The Making of the Hitch-Hikers' Guide To The Galaxy - so I just assumed it existed all the time...?

You also forgot to mention that Level Seven of Out Of The Unknown will also be shown. It would be cool to see Face of the Tiger ( A for Andromeda ep 6 ) shown on the big screen. I know it was released in the Andromeda Anthology DVD collection earlier this year, but there is a nostalgic satisfaction with seeing the material projected on the screen. Out of the Trees was talked about earlier this year on this forum board. It is not surprising now that it will be shown at Missing Believed Wiped this year. However not much was said about its status in the archives. I had heard that a copy was produced from a very troublesome master tape, or other format or original recording. Could someone possibly enlighten us here ?

The film sequences from OOTT have always existed in the BBC Archive... there's about 15-20 minutes of material.
