The cricket is from 27/08/68 as Derek "Deadly" Underwood skittled the Aussies out with minutes to spare on a real sticky dog at The Oval. There are scenes existing of the crowd helping to mop up the waterlogged outfield to allow play to resume towards the end of the day.

Had a look at the spreadsheet. Couldn't find Rembrandt (BBC Dec 69)or The Young Generation: Jesus Christmas special from 69 either. I'm gradually going through the Radio Times listings through 1968-9, so it is likely I will find more examples along the way, so it quite expected I will encounter some omissions. Good shout out on the Younger Generation special from Xmas 69', although I will need to get 'Rembrandt' verified further, as it appears it only survives as 525 line NTSC copy according to TV Brain, although the original tape may reside at the BFI. I'm currently checking whether that is truly the case. Moreover, I recently found a poetry recital series called 'An Evening With...', which was a series that ran between 1968-71 and a host of well known guest spekers, an number of episodes exist on colour VT, these include: EP 1 Sir Tyrone Guthrie TX: 04/10/68 HS: DB / 2" EP 2 Lord David Cecil TX: 01/11/68 HS: DB / 2" EP 4 Huw Wheldon TX: 03/01/69 HS: DB / 2" EP 6 Sir Michael Redgrave TX: 21/03/69 [Show postponed from 21/2/69] HS: DB / 2" EP 7 Alan Bennett TX: 09/05/69 HS: DB-D3 / 2" EP 9 Alistair Cooke TX: 11/07/69 HS: DB / 2" EP 10 The Very Rev. Lord Macleod TX: 08/08/69 HS: DB / 2" EP 11 Lady Asquith TX: 20/02/70 HS: DB / 2" EP 12 Peter Pears TX: 20/03/70 HS: DB / 2" EP 14 Dame Sybil Thorndike w/Sir Hugh Casson TX: 15/05/70 HS: DB / 2" EP 17 Sir John Betjemen TX: 24/12/70 HS: DB / 2"

I recently watched this documentary on the introduction of colour television in the UK made back in 1993 ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN6lH85YdY8), and towards the end of the documentary it contained clips from a number of early colour television programs. I've included some stills, perhaps someone could provide me with some more details about these shows and if they date from the late 60's or early 70's.

The still of Denis Law celebrating a goal v Man. City could well be 17.12.69 in the League Cup .

I'm afraid that it's really a bit of a puff piece. I know you're focusing on tapes, but live broadcasts were not really documented so finding what programmes were transmitted with colour content has been hard, but I now know when the first full colour programme was broadcast. And it has chroma dots. Here is a grab of what I believe to be the first colour ident clock on BBC TV. Attachments:

It looks great, on the subject of chroma dots I think it would have been a great if a compilation was made of colour recovered clips from BBC programs during the early years of colour, to show it's development during the first three years of colour broadcasting. I know it's probably unlikely, but it's good that at least a few shows from the late 60's have been colour recovered including Dad's Army, The Morecambe & Wise Show and more recently, the sole surviving episode of 'Late Night Horror'.
On the subject of live broadcasts, sports material may be easier to track down than other live content given that Colour VT clips from this era have been reused in highlights compilations, repeated on channels likes ESPN or distributed on VHS/ Tape. I've already managed to find over a dozen examples of live sports clips from this era that survive on Colour VT, so at least that's one promising area to persue further.

The big problem you have is that there has never been an archival policy to colour recover programmes with chroma dots. In fact, no-one has ever made a study of early film recordings of colour programmes. Apparently the 1966 election coverage was sent to the USA in colour. No idea how it was done, but I guess they may have had experimental NTSC cameras at TVC or Lime Grove. No recordings survive and of course colour recovery only works on PAL sources... and I think it also depends on how the BBC's film recorders worked as well. Paul

Did anyone notice that in this clip, already posted up-thread, the commentator announces they are switching from colour to black & white (at around 4m45s) due to poor light...!

Searching for rare programs through the BFI is like searching for a needle in a haystack. However I found this interesting example from 1969, 'Stokowski Conducts' which was broadcast on the 28/9/69 and according to the BFI, it still exists on 2" Colour VT, quite a facinating find: collections-search.bfi.org.uk/web/Details/ChoiceFilmWorks/155839470

This happened quite regularly in the early colour days as the cameras could not cope with gloomy winter afternoons.

I've just found a rather duped looking copy of 'The Burning Fiery Furnace', an opera by Benjamin Britten which was taped by an OB Unit at Orford Church, the locale for which the play was originally written for; which was first broadcast on BBC2, on the 13/07/1969.
