A great find here.... "24 November 1966, The Easybeats debuted on Top of the Pops' 150th episode, telecast to a regular viewing audience of 15 million, larger than the entire population of Australia at the time. It would eventually reach No. 6 on the charts. Featuring a live vocal from lead singer Stevie Wright, the group pre-recorded their performance at the BBC’s Lime Grove Studios in London’s Shepherd’s Bush." The Easybeats on TOTPYoutube link:

This is just wonderful in so many ways. And look how easy it was to scan, preserve and share. Others should take note. Fantastic.

What a fabulous clip! You more or less give up on ever seeing something of broadcast quality from 1966/67 then you get this! Harry Vanda's extrovert mannerisms on guitar is pop band member 1966 defined, as evocative as head Byrd McGuinn's professorial head nodding from Aug '65. It's great to see the BBC logo in the corner. There really is no excuse not to broadcast it. The other genuinely special thing about the clip is it's date, notable to any '60s pop fanatic. We actually now have a glimpse of what Top of the Pops looked like on the evening The Beatles recorded Take 1 of 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.

I watched a very entertaining biopic about The Easybeats a few years ago . It's still on demand and it's brilliant!! I couldn't recommend it any more than I have in recent times. Perfect.

'Australian Hits at the BBC' is on again this evening on BBC4. There's only a selective listing but between the 1st and 2nd listed song there's an approximately 30 minute gap. Plus there's a mention of The Easybeats as an act who appeared at the BBC. Was their BBC clip known at the time of the programme's last airing? Is there a possibility that a classic lost clip is getting broadcast on the channel this evening?

Yes, that clip is 'Beat Club', 31st December 1966. I have the volume 1 and 2 box sets. Pity but I suppose that is what will be shown. I guess if the rediscovered clip was to be shown it would be given a fanfare. TV Guide website does mention that it includes "top UK shows". Probably not in this case but, well, you never know.
