Hello,
I was wondering in the future Classic Who Bly-ray boxsets other than special features and animation will any of the episodes have any scenes in proper HD like we had in Season 19?
And once again with Classic Who boxsets will there be anymore seasons with extended episodes ( I don’t own the DVD’s) ?
Lastly, do you think the 60’s sets will have any new CGI or will they use that budget for more or better animation?
Thanks

I don't imagine those decisions have been taken if I'm honest.
Certainly, the technology to digitally upscale the image is there. Whether the powers that believe think there's an appetite for it remains to be seen.
I think with TV's getting bigger, upscaling and cleaning the image would be a big hit.
On a personal level, I have managed to get clips from some Hartnell's into 1080HD and looking fairly good. Others I couldn't push beyond 720 without noticeable issues. So there's no one-size-fits-all solution as far as I can see.
Updated CGI, you'd imagine, would be an optional extra on some stories.

All sorts of things are possible. From what I’ve seen those involved want to produce a good quality, attractive product.

But is there any surviving film/ film trims is what I mean? That then can be used to go to 1080p HD without the need for upscalling
So that it can be actual HD for some of the outdoor scenes like how all of the stuff not filmed in the studio for Season 19’s Black Orchid is in HD and obviously how Spearhead is too (I’m aware there’s no more full serials)

Some survived from the JN-T era, such as Five Doctors and Earthshock but I don’t think there’s much from earlier.

Were the filmed model sections from DMP & the Space Pirates found in their original form?

Were the filmed model sections from DMP & the Space Pirates found in their original form? I do recall some footage of clouds, etc from DMP that turned up and were shown at MBW - the late Bob Monkhouse was in the audience that day. At most there are a few snippets on film from that sort of era.

There's one frame in HD from a film insert of Planet of Giants. There are about 40 seconds of footage from The Dalek Invasion of Earth, Episodes 1 and 3. The a still from episode 1 of The Rescue. About one second from The Web Planet episode 6. A still of the TARDIS crew from The Space Museum episode 1. The stock film of New York from The Chase episode 3. Again, stock footage of Vikings from The Time Meddler episode 2. A handful of sequences from the Ealing filming for The Daleks' Master Plan: Episodes 1 and 2. A still of the Seine in Paris from The Massacre. 19 shots from The War Machines episodes 3 and 4 exist on 35mm. A handful of snippets The Power of the Daleks across episode 4, 5 and 6. A lovely haul of footage from The Abominable Snowmen episode 2 thanks to the BBC Film and Videotape Library. A still from The Dominators, episode 1 and The Seeds of Death episode 6. About 90 seconds from The Space Pirates, episodes 1 and 2. There's also a handful of unused film trims across various episodes.

Regarding the animations, absolutely not happening. There might be a bit of budget to touch up a few scenes if there's anything really bad but there's nowhere near enough money to cover a brand new animation. Animations will need their own dedicated release to cover production costs.

Some may recall my suggestion of a strategic approach to animations so that there was scope for a double dip - a standalone release and then as part of a blu ray box set some years later.
