Would placing a notice in local newspapers for wanting recordings of TV and Radio work to recover things?
Local newspapers are mostly read by older people who are the most likely audience to have them.

It might raise awareness a little. It wouldn't substantially alter things IMHO.

My guess, is that the best chance is that you might find more off air audio. Which is not so bad.

I agree that they’re mostly read by older people - but they don’t reach many households nowadays. The last time I looked the paper in my area reached somewhat less than 10% - and that’ll have fallen.
There’s nothing to lose although I suspect many of those who read local papers probably watch TPTV.

Wasn’t there a similar thread some time ago? I’ve had a quick trawl but I can’t find anything though.

I think most members of the public have little or no idea about what is missing. The reality is that it's difficult to find out even for those of us who are enthusiasts. The other side of the coin is the lack of interest from TV companies and archives.
In terms of material from the VHS era a huge window of opportunity has just about closed. The videos that pop up on YouTube are often a shadow of what could have been retrieved from the original VHS tape. Unfortunately there has been no joined up thinking. Most tapes won't have been copied. A tiny percentage, poorly transferred onto DVD, compromising the quality even further.
So much has been lost because of this, regional, BSB and probably Channel 4.

Adverts in Trade Magazines that caterer to film enthusiasts and collectors might be more helpful. I have wondered about British collectors moving to the Americas as example, taking their collections with them.

Local newspapers are mostly read by older people who are the most likely audience to have them. Its been mentioned many times and long overdue someone tried. If you were to have an advert professionally designed, leading with a Dr Who 16mm film print image, but listing others shows too, it’d catch the eye… Then launch a crowdfund for the costs of placing the adverts, with someone like Paul V putting his name behind it as legit, and I’d donate funds as I’m sure many people would…
