Paul, that is certainly the case for promos directed by people like Peter Whitehead and sent out to a variety of different world-wide shows, but I can't recall any that were made specifically for TOTP being in colour before November 1969. Looking at the list on your own (excellent) site, most of the TOTP videos I've seen from the 1964-1968 era have been in black & white: nostalgicmusictv.x10host.com/totppromos.htmThe one exception is The Move's 'Flowers In The Rain' which I didn't think was made solely for TOTP, though I'm happy to be proven wrong (maybe Thomas Walsh knows for sure?). The Move like many others artists filmed these for inclusion on many of the TV shows of the time. Oh OK, I was confused as it is listed under the heading "This is a list of the surviving promotional clips that were filmed especially for TOTP".

Many of the promos shown on TOTP in the 60's were made in colour. Not all directors were using B&W film. This is from an October 1967 edition of Melody Maker. It's widely assumed it's the 'Flowers..' promo. "Super Colour"? The Move doing UHD way before it's time.

The video i posted above for Eleanor Rigby wasn't made especially for TOTP. So is it definitely the same one shown on TOTP? ..... Actually, I just referred to my own book on The Beatles ('The Beatles: Tell Me What You See'), and this is what I wrote: 08-09-66 – ‘Top Of The Pops’ Video (UK)Eleanor Rigby Again made for ‘Top Of The Pops’, and broadcast just the once on 08-09-66, this features a montage of still images of an actor dressed as a priest while in a Manchester churchyard. Even at the time, viewers must’ve found this underwhelming, despite the undoubted high quality of the accompanying soundtrack. So it seems this is NOT the TOTP video. I doubt that this is the video, i was just pointing out that it may have been the video seen by Stephen. The Move's promo was made to promote FITR on TOTP but was also made available for the general public to purchase a copy as Thomas has posted.

The video i posted above for Eleanor Rigby wasn't made especially for TOTP. Thanks Paul for clarifying this, it's an intriguing little film and if it's not the one from TOTP 1966, it raises the question what it was for and who made it? The style of it is late sixties/early seventies, was it made for another pop/tv show or just someone's independent project?

It wasn't this video you saw was it? I have checked the details under this YouTube video and it lists it as 'Cartoon US TV' so it may very well be something screened on tv in 1966 but on whatever the American equivalent of TOTP was?, there's also a similar clip for Strawberry feilds and it appears to come from a pirate dvd of beatles promos and performances

I've seen those two volumes of 'Chronology' DVDs, and I can confirm that there is no further info included.

Without checking, I'm certain it's from the Beatles cartoon series.

Without checking, I'm certain it's from the Beatles cartoon series. The Strawberry Feilds one on the YouTubers channel is, but Eleanor Rigby one is not the same in style as the beatles cartoon series.

The Eleanor Rigby clip above is from the Wait / I'm Only Sleeping edition of The Beatles cartoon series from the third season in 1967. I remember Night Network showing it here in 1987-ish which was the first time I'd ever seen them as only Granada had shown them before, sometime in the mid-seventies. There was a singalong section each week with the lyrics on the screen. Stylisically it does look different to the others, but these cartoon shows were made by the same people who made the Yellow Submarine feature film the following year, so the style is not too dissimilar to that.

Both Beatles and TOTP collectors are very tenacious! As for the cartoons, I have every episode on a couple of discs somewhere though I've never watched them in full as they're bl**dy awful (unlike the brilliant 'Yellow Submarine' movie).

I heard the Beatles themselves managed to veto UK screenings of the Cartoon for many years as they were embarrassed by them.
