Many thanks to everyone who responded to my Morecambe and Wise thread! Now... a new question!
Has anyone ever encountered any information/rumour/wild fancy about the Granada television series 'The Younger Generation' which ran on ITV in 1961?
This was a repetoire style series which took a set ten-person cast and placed them in a series of stand-alone television plays each dealing with different aspects of down 'n gritty 60s Britain life. Each of then ten actors would play different characters each week, getting a chance to play a lead one time and simply playing a walk-on in the next.
The core cast was:
Clive Colin Bowler (as Clive Colin-Bowler)
Johnny Briggs
Judy Cornwell
Trevor Danby
Bill Douglas (as Forbes Douglas)
Wilfred Downing
Ronald Lacey
Mary Miller
John Thaw
Mela White
One episode exists in the archive: 'Flow Gently Sweet Afton'.
If IMDB is to be trusted, then the series ran thus:
Season 1, Episode 1: The Rabbit Set
30 June 1961
Season 1, Episode 2: Flow Gently Sweet Afton
7 July 1961
Rose and Denny try to find happiness in an out-of-season seaside resort.
Season 1, Episode 3: Animals Can't Laugh
14 July 1961
Bruce wants to be taken seriously by the London litteratti; but will his sense of humour get in the way...??
Season 1, Episode 4: Our Ted
21 July 1961
Ted is the type of lad who likes a laugh, money in his pocket and a girl on his arm. Colonel Stevens does not approve...
Season 1, Episode 5: The Suburb Cuckoo
28 July 1961
Janette has trouble readjusting to her parents' home life after a year at Oxford University....
Season 1, Episode 6: The Mating Age
4 August 1961
Peter Suddaby should be God's gift to women...if only he could find one who wants a gift...
Season 1, Episode 7: Josie
11 August 1961
Josie finds the family ties, that she finds so frustrating at times, have their positive sides.
Season 1, Episode 8: Run Away Home
18 August 1961
Johnny finds that his family money makes him an outsider amongst his peer group...
Season 1, Episode 9: Sucker
25 August 1961
George's friends serve apprenticeships. George has taken the easy option...and is beginning to regret it.
Season 1, Episode 10: Somewhere to Begin
1 September 1961
Max and David share a flat, their own private little world...
Season 1, Episode 11: Goodbye Charlie
8 September 1961
Charlie is building an aircraft in his boarding-house bedroom...
