Here's a rare clip of Unit 4+2 performing their song 'Rainy Day' on the long running children's show Blue Peter in early 1966. In this appearance, quite suitably they perform the song whilst hiding from a terrific downpour in Studio 4, TV Centre. This clip is notable for being the only surviving clip of the band performing on British TV, which is remarkable as there are only a half a dozen or so clips of the band that still exist. Check out then presenters Christopher Trace, Valerie Singleton and John Noakes in plastic macs at the end of this clip, along with Jason the cat. I'm surprised this footage has never been featured in any compilation shows before, it's quite entertaining.

Fantastic proto - video! Thanks for sharing.
My guess is that it's never turned up in any comp shows simply because Unit 4 + 2 weren't very well remembered outside of 'Concrete and Clay', so there was no hook for including a lesser known song like this in say 'Sounds Of The Sixties'.
With this clip, the Pinkertons Assorted Colours one and the very early Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band footage, Blue Peter seems like a real treasure trove for footage of otherwise rarely seen acts from early 1966. But I've rarely if even see pop acts on the show after this period: does anyone know if the practice was abandoned after early 1966? Sure BP hosted many musical appearances in later years, but this kind of 'current pop music' slot seems to have been abandoned soon after, otherwise wouldn't we have loads of similarly rare clips of slightly more off the beaten track pop acts from 1967. 1968, 1969 etc.. (unless they did and such performances have yet to be identified and posted online!.. HSE)

Just a thought....

In the Unit 4 + 2 clip I think that might be Russ Ballard seated to the right of the drummer. If so It's the first time I've seen him without his trademark sunglasses.

You might be right Peter. I thought it looked like Russ Ballard, but he seems to be playing bass rather than his usual guitar.
