Hey Guys,
Does anyone have information on exactly which episodes of the ITV 60s Morecambe and Wise shows are currently missing from the archive?

Hmm... my information was that a largish number of these exist... Mr Pixley, I would never doubt your word on anything relating to Doctor Who - an area in which your knowledge is near-legendary - but are you sure they're all wiped? All six series from 1961 to 1968? Sorry if that sounds really patronising!

Possibly that wasn't the real Andrew Pixley? There are some imposters on here. There's one arsehole who unfortunately share the same IP/hub address with who keeps posting inanae comments. everytime I go to wikipedia I get flooded with warnings for pages I know nothing about! If it IS the real mr Pixley, I apologise profusely. If not, keep an eye out for these idiots, Chris...

How interesting...
Funny that the sight doesn't have people sign in with passwords and the like.
Anyway, back to business. Morecambe and Wise. Anyone?
Anyone...?

If you mean the ATV series "Two of a Kind" , I thought that was pretty complete, if not totally. Same goes for those 60 minute "Morecambe and Wise Show"/"Piccadilly Palace" ATV shows from '68 (though I'm not sure the colour version of those is known to exist..it's most likely somewhere in the US is it does). They certainly aren't all wiped. Their first ever series, the title of which escapes me, is gone isn't it?

Hi Geoff,
That sounds about right on the Two of a Kind front. I just think they're missing a very small number of episodes - I'm trying to confirm which ones but without much luck.
The earlier series you mention is Running Wild (BBC) - 6 episodes which I believe are all gone.

BBC2 have shown lots of complete episodes of Two of a Kind (possibly all of them), complete with ATV idents.
Channel 4 have shown the ATV episode from 1966 with Hermans Hermits as guests.

6 volumes of this series (compilations) were issued in th 1990's on VHS. So I would guess that most of it does exist - ITC were pretty good at keeping things - just in case Lew Grade got a wiff of an overseas sale!
The Running Wild series would have been in 1952 if memeory serves me right so probably live and certainly not recorded for posterity! (if it was i think Eric for one would have set light to it personally!)
Does anybody know what footage exists pre 1962 - guest appearences etc. Very little I expect
Also the "Music Hall" footage that appeared on "The History Of Light Entertainment" Any ideas on where this came from? "The Good old days" perhaps? if so from when?
Richard

The BBC showed all 26 episodes of series 2 and 3 of "Two of a Kind" in 1999/2000. There was also a series "Vintage Morecambe and Wise" shown in 1986 by the BBC which used what was probably the 1965 or 66 series of ITV shows.
"Running Wild" was transmitted in 1954, and would not have been recorded - drama and entertainment programmes almost never were in those days. M&W also appeared in, I think, all but one of a variety series called "Double Six" in 1957, where they were one of a roster of acts appearing. The earliest existing BBC appearance of theirs is "The Good Old Days" from 26/12/59.

The Monkhouse show is a good one! I think it's slightly later though, maybe 1959?
According to Mark Lewisohn's comedy guide, BBC repeated 26 of the ATV Two of a Kind episodes which is all of series 2 and 3 (1962 - 1963). They'd make a great dvd release.
The Beatles one is from the following series - I'd really like to see it in full having only seen the Beatles section. Apple would probably block a dvd release. There is another M & W/Beatles connection though that is on dvd - they were both on the same edition of the Ed Sullivan Show which is available and well worth picking up.

Apart from The Saturday Spectacular (ATV, br. spring 1959) with Bob Monkhouse, one other show from the1950s with the appearance of M & W, is 'The Good Old Days' (BBC, br. 26.12.59).
The first BBC2 shows from 1968 (all in colour) were, apparently, wiped, but one programme in black and white from that series did turn up.
I have heard there may be some others.
Yours,
