What is happening at the BBC?
I watched the first episode of this series last night and the quality of many of the clips (especially those from the 70's) was appauling.
I also noticed (on some of the 60's tele recorded clips) that some VERY HEAVY Audio Noise reduction was used - Badly!
If this is what they are doing to archive material now god help us all!

I agree, Richard. The programme was of course made in widescreen (16.9), so all the clips (4.3 originally) had been heavily zoomed to fit... Any full DVD release, of any of the programme clips shown, though, would be better, as they'd be in there original 4.3 ratio... I'd hope! This sort of thing's happening lots lately, as I'm sure you've noticed...

Im always intrigued when ATV material is shown in these compilation shows because its one of the biggest entertainment archives in the world which still remains largely uncatalogued. The company Reelin in the Years now represents Granada International's archives (they own the ATV copyright) and is sifting through many elements at both Perrievale and newly discovered telerecordings in America. Ive convinved myself theyve found a veritable treasure trove of early 60s variety shows including SN at London Palladiums etc but admit this is just conjecture on my part. Some private collectors on here (mainly american) have various SN at Palladium from the 1966 season... yet none of this shows up in an official search of Granada's archives. Can anyone verity what does survive from the 1966 season?

I have two survivals from the 1966 re-titled 'London Palladium Show' run, the experimental colour edition with Roy Orbison and a US off-air copy of an edition hosted by Kate Smith with Morecambe & Wise amongst others. There are quite a few survivals from the earlier Sunday Night era of which I'm sure I have six shows and a couple of clips not including the Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli special from the London Palladium which i'm not sure is part of the canon or not.

hi amp, id love to do a swap with titles in my collection. I heard someone purchased the 2nd October 1966 SNALP show recently from America. Do you have that one? What are the dates of the earlier shows in your possession? e mail rumbers@ntlworld.com
