The chinese copy of the US edition is also an option.
So you could choose different subs, but not turn them off? Weird. Did they ever release Yellowbeard? It would be interesting to know how they were with extras and such.
Sometimes things get released in unexpected places. A friend from Finland told me they have a Finnish release of "At last the 1948 show" - no, don't ask, no previously unreleased material there. And "Rowan Atkinson Live" is only sold in Holland & Scandinavia (with Australia as a possible exception).
You could possibly remove the subtitles by making a back-up excluding those.
By the way, if you have any more information on the Spanish edition, I would like to know. I try to keep a complete python DVD guide on my website - even if I don't update it enough and the site isn't very good. If you have an official site or pictures, please let me know.

Not sure if this was the right thread, but somebody said he ahd a lead on a home video recording that may or may not have included the "Choreographed Political " bit. Any word on that one?

He actually posted screen grabs from it a while ago! The only problem with it is that it was an off-air tape made from a broadcast during a PBS pledge drive and had a pledge phone number on it. Still, it's better than nothing if it turns out that it doesn't offically exist...

It was the same almost forgotten hero that recently found a rough cut of Life of Brian, wasn't it?

I'll admit, sometimes being a Yank has its advantages. I have the entire A&E DVD set except for the one with The Spanish Inquisition

Is the chappy who's searching through this material doing so for potential DVD release? Or is it just a coincidence that it's all going on at the same time (I'd hate it to turn out as a left hand, right hand situation)?

I think he keeps the pythons and/or the python office informed. I know I would, too. It's up to them if they will release it or not. A few months back there was a guy who found an old interview. He got permission to post it on the internet for everyone to see. Now that was a good solution.

I read on another forum that there is a PBS station in the US (Texas I think) still using their original 1970s tapes with some of the cut parts still in there. Might be worth checking out.

Wasn't that the same tape? The one with the pledge phone number?

No, I think he's refering to broadcast masters. If that's the case, it's a lead well worth following up. Though I can't conceive why they'd still be broadcasting from 30 year old tapes myself...

It sounds strange. But IF this were the case, it would bring back a few sketches that have been missing for years or only exist in black&white.

I'm the chap with the pledge drive-burned video of "Choreographed Conservative Party Speech."
I'd be very interested if a TV station is running old master tapes, though it's unlikely as they would not contain closed-captioning. (When CC came in in the '90s, fueled in part by the Americans With Disabilities Act, older tapes were often replaced with new, CC-encoded tapes.) And none of the PBS stations I've contacted have confirmed that they kept older Python tapes from the '70s, which would predate the cuts we've discussed. The only archive I've found that has '70s era Python tapes is the Library of Congress which has a couple of episodes on Quad but none of the ones that have since been cut.
What forum did you see this inforrmation on?

It was on Imdb.com. (The thread has been deleted though now) I'm pretty sure the guy said he was in Texas, although I forget which station in particular. He said he was absolutely sure he saw "Choreographed Conservative Party Speech" on his local station. Sorry I can't be of more help

Mind you, there also is another python sketch where a minister is stripping while making some political statement. I suspect that sometimes people confuse these two sketches.
Anecdote. In a moment of boredom, I once posted on the IMDB how "monty python and the holy grail" was full of historical errors and therefore very unrealistic, and that I wished to register a complaint about that. What followed were at least a dozen posts, varying in (im)patience, trying to point out where I had gone wrong.
I also know of someone who has a tape containing one of Graham's college tours. But he simply can't be bothered to dig it up.
