After sharing peterscheck's clip of The Searchers on BP with a friend who's more of a Hollies expert than me, he mentioned that they'd appeared on Blue Peter doing 'Stay' presumably in late 1963 when the single came out but that Bobby Elliot mentioned in his book that it was wiped.
I was under the impression that most Blue Peters existed after a certain early 60s date, (can anyone remind me when the cut off point is?), and with the Freddie and the Dreamers and Searchers music performances existing from either side of when the Hollies record was out, I was wondering if there was any hope that the editiion with The Hollies doing 'Stay' existed in the BBC archive but just hadn't ever leaked.. anyone know either way? Know it's a long shot but worth asking anyway: as Hollies fans will know there is no known contemporary footage of them performing this their first top ten single known to be extant so it would be of considerable interest for this reason should it survive.

I know someone who looked into this, and he assures me that it unfortunately only survives as an off-air audio (below is from 'Channelling The Beat!):
17-02-64 – ‘Blue Peter’ (UK): Stay / (Ain’t That) Just Like Me
Reprising their 1st single as well as performing their most recent hit, this performance survives in audio form only.

Thanks Peter: should have known to go straight to the source with your book in the first place of course! Shame The Hollies appear to have missed out on the BP survival lottery as it would be good to have representation of 2 of their first 3 hits. I just looked up Blue Peter on TV Brain and the cut off point appears to have been later than I thought.. it's in fact mid 1967 before nearly everything starts getting kept, and although a fair amount of material from early 62-mid 67 was kept, it's far from everything. Little seems to survive pre 1962. www.tvbrain.info/tv-archive?showname=Blue+Peter&type=lostshowDid performances by chart pop groups become less common on the show after the mid 60s? Can't really recall ever seeing many from after that point.
