Here's Spencer himself singing, from the so-bad-it's-good movie 'The Ghost Goes Gear':

Ah, sad news indeed. The SDG were excellent and he always seemed like a very decent guy. Have I imagined it or did I recently see a mid-60s b&w film report of him at home in his very non rock'n'roll suburban semi? There was footage of him with his wife and new baby in the back garden and he was explaining how he achieved some sort of balance between being a family man and being in a successful pop group. Where on earth did I see that?!

Steve There was a few European shows in London around that time reporting back on what was going to be the next big thing just a thought. ..and oh dear I didn't think of him being 81 years old.

Has the source of this 'I'm A Man' promo ever been established? It's obviously shot in the UK and looks exactly like the sort of thing that might have been put together for TOTP. It's a great piece of footage - I wonder if it exists in decent quality somewhere? It always has the ropey generational quality of a film insert played into a telerecorded programme. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tASU1jT0q4Steve

SDG produced some of the most exciting and memorable music of the 60s aided by the fantastic voice of the teenage Steve Winwood.R.I.P Spencer.
