Can't see there would be rights issues - quite possibly not enough people brought the 1st VHS to release a 2nd...

I used to have the audio to the last episode on a cassette. Long gone now, it didn’t survive past the mid 70’s.

I asked Network about the original VHS they released at the time and they said that they had been under the impression that they had released all of the episodes and said they were surprised to learn that they hadn't and that the rest of the episodes existed at all.

There were only 31 episodes of Sir Prancelot. Episode 5, sometimes jokingly listed with the title 'A Load of Hot Air', does not exist, apparently because of writer John Ryan's superstitious distrust of the number 5. The 19 episodes released on VHS have been on Youtube, left alone by 'rights' people, for 9 years, so I think a more likely reason for no release is a perceived lack of value in it. This is just my observation, but in the early days of DVD there was a mass of vintage (which I am stretching to mean anything non-current) children's animation released, but the supply has almost completely dried up more recently (Gerry Anderson and few others excepted). It just looks like that after initial enthusiasm there was found to be no profit in it. There's precious little on Blu-ray and notably Camberwick Green was not followed up with Trumpton and Chigley. Further, what was released on DVD has often become scarce and expensive second-hand, but there's not much apparent rush to re-release it.

Thanks Darren But why only release 19 episodes in the first place?

It was just a mistake, as Nigel sort of indicated above (note that the VHS is called 'The Complete Series'). I suppose if they did the same now on DVD, it would maybe have to be re-issued and there be a disc-replacement scheme. Before mass-internet, I guess there was less accountability.

A bit more BBC children's drama would be nice. Simply Media occasionally dribble out gems - "Carrie's War" and "The Phoenix and the Carpet" being particularly welcome revisits from my childhood. The German company Pidax have also been good with some old BBC children's drama - "The Moon Stallion" and "Thursday's Child" appearing in dual language editions. Sadly one of my wants "Sam and the River" has been released by Pidax in a German only edition.
You kind of think in the centenary year of the BBC we might have had more. I'm still holding out for "Sam and the River", "The Terracotta Horse" and "The Long Chase."

I’m unsure how this sort of thing will progress with the demise of Network.
