Apologies if this has been covered before, but does 'The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes' (1971) still exist? I understand it was a Thames Television production. Did they have a good track record for preserving old shows? I'm particularly intrigued by the episode 'Horse of the Invisible', based on the story by William Hope Hodgson and starring Donald Pleasence.

All the episodes from both seasons of 'Rivals' exist in the archives.
About two-thirds are out there in trading circles.

Thanks for the information. Good to know the series still exists, even if a repeat or DVD release is unlikely.

Some of the episodes were repeated on Granada+ a few years back. I would think thay would make a reappearance on ITV3/4 at some point. Horse of the Invisible was a very good adaption. It's a shame that the other Carnacki stories have never been dramatised.

Any repeats would be welcome. Perhaps ITV3 could show some episodes when it finishes the current run of Jeremy Brett 'Sherlock Holmes' stories. I think several of the Carnacki stories would dramatise well. BBC4 screened a new M.R. James adaptation, 'A View from the Hill', so there's always hope.
