Thanks for the kind words Tom. I’m glad someone gets it, most folks just think I’m a bit bonkers! 😂😂😂 Monochrome TVs have their own distinctive way of displaying ..er monochrome TV.
I often watch programming from Talking Pictures TV on my black & white sets.

"Monochrome TVs have their own distinctive way of displaying ..er monochrome TV."
Perhaps it's the fact that many monochrome recordings are copied with the colour still switched on, so they don't look right on a colour TV. As a video editor, I'm amazed how often I find I have to add a b/w filter to make a programme genuinely monochrome. When I flick the filter on an off, some films or videos look almost brownish and white, or blueish and white.

I've noticed that too, though some B&W televisions seemed to have a blueish tint to the screen.

Oh for the pre colour 405 days when the dedicated black & white signal was much better quality. When colour came, much of the contrast signal was ‘dumped’ to use for colour information. The recently posted photo of Marianne Faithful on TOTP gives a good example of how good the picture was on a well set up TV.

Here you are... a bit of glorious 405 line tv (but probably converted to VHS)

From the latest newsletter:
Folks, we’ve been a bit quiet of late about the troubles we have been facing as a FREE TV channel. Advertising is picking up, that’s the good news! But it’s spreading the word that will keep these projector wheels turning and increase our audience. SO, if you have ANY ideas how we can spread the word more, PLEASE get in touch at sarah@talkingpicturestv.co.uk. People often ring and ask us what they can do to help. So this is it, maybe buy one of our very special 2021 calendars? 🙂 it all helps!

as talking pictures is one of the most popular channels in the last year with the growing success of their 'saturday morning pictures'strand and showing rare & recently-discovered episodes of classics like 'no hiding place' with the ratings went through the roof during the pandemic.should this channel be named 'digital channel of the year 2021'?they should give the father and daughter team who set it up 6 years noel and sarah cronin-stanley a bit of recognition for all the work of putting together a channel we never had that genre since bravo in the mid-90s.

They’ve had some pretty good media coverage over about the last year - well deserved imho.

I remember UK Gold got quite a buzz when it first started, but it never really showed the same material as TPTV.

I remember UK Gold got quite a buzz when it first started, but it never really showed the same material as TPTV. Yeah, I really enjoyed watching the Saturday morning stuff on UK Gold back in the 90’s like the rerun of Survivors. At the time I also felt they were brave in some of their program selections like reshowing the colour episodes of Till Death Us Do Part. It’s a shame it’s become a channel for fairly recent “safe” repeats.

"If you can tear yourself away from TPTV, founder of Talking Pictures TV, Noel, is on BOOM Radio on Sunday 25th April at 8pm. Tune in to hear Noel talk about his life, his work, and, of course, Talking Pictures TV. You’ll find BOOM on DAB - or listen online on your smart speaker or computer."
