I understand that TPTV are being squeezed due to the lockdown reducing advertising revenue. They’ve worked up to something like the 21st most popular UK channel and their fifth birthday is next month. The best way, I believe, to help them is to increase their audience. Most here, I think, know them but if you know anyone who might enjoy their material please point them in the right direction, encourage them to sign up for the newsletter, etc TPTV

Seconded here, they have shown many classic films and tv Series, who would have thought in 2019/20 we would have seen Strange Report, Public Eye, Out and many more classics on tv. Up the Junction from 68 showing this week.

Couldn’t agree more. Definitely the channel of choice these days. Good films on this evening, No Room At The Inn at 6:05 & Up The Junction at 9:30. Let’s hope they can scrape through the current crisis.

I honestly wish I could get TPTV here in Portugal. Alas, no. We do have RTP Memoria though, which given that RTP is the national broadcaster is as if the BBC launched its own version of TPTV.

You can, it’s open & unscrambled on Astra 28’ East. Don’t think it’s on the tight Uk beam, if it is you will need a 1.2m dish, if it’s not a 60cm should be fine.

That will have to wait until the roof gets redone then, but they sell all the equipment five minutes' walk away. Whether we can get away with it without planning permission, however, is another matter... /edit: by which I mean that the rules & regulations are different here, and if placed in one place it won't need permission, but another it will - whether we can find a place that meets the former criteria was what I was meaning.

If you are into diy, what I would do is see if you can find a cheap 80cm dish & use as low a loss lnb as possible & try it out, you can find them as low as 1dB these days (the lower the loss the higher the gain) and it shouldn’t cost much to buy (maybe 25 euro for the dish & 8 euro for the lnb) making it worth a punt. No sure what planning is like in Portugal but usually the red tape increases with dish size and 80cm is the size that is often the largest with the minimum grief if you get what I mean. Last time I was over there several years ago there were 80cm dishes everywhere which perhaps supports that. If the worst came to the worst you & it is on the tight beam you might have have to trade it in for a 1.2m dish. Alternatively I’m sure there are lots of folks offering satellite services to ex-pats out there who could help.

I'd prefer to leave the house still standing, if possible.
