Found by complete chance on somebody's 60's home archive album on Flickr. Amongst the photos taken within school and idly exploring the countryside were to be found these gems. Although Marianne Faithfull and The Who appeared together on three separate '65 editions, I've deduced it to be the 18-11-1965 edition as the Flickr album is in a helpfully chronological order and these snaps come between a 1965 summer holiday and an evidently wintertime wood. Marianne Faithfull - Yesterday, a NEW entry The Who - My Generation, No.5 on the charts

Great find and brilliantly sharp photos too- you can clearly see the 405-line structure on the Marianne Faithfull image. They obviously got the shutter speed on the camera just right.
Sad case that I am, I can tell you the television set in the photos is a 19" Bush TV135 which would have been new in 1965. Here's a photo of the one in my collection.

A great set with an excellent picture but unfortunately like a lot of dual standards, a bit unreliable. My parents had one in the 60’s but the UHF tuner was not installed in the set & the top set of buttons were just a blanking plate. I remember getting into terrible trouble for pushing in the 625 line button, which had the effect of breaking the valve heater chain as the UHF tuner was missing and switching off the set. Queue one unnecessary tv repair man visit & a major bollocking.

Hi Richard Like your parents' set, my TV135 has a dummy set of UHF buttons, with no tuner fitted. I supppose these were sold as '625 ready' or 'convertible'. Mine is on to 'to do' pile but you can read about the restoration of another one here: www.radios-tv.co.uk/community/black-white-tvs/bush-tv135lu/Steve

Some rental companies locked some dual standard sets onto 625 lines when refurbishing them after BBC1 & ITV started transmissions.
This made the sets a bit easier to maintain.

I look at that site quite often, which is very good for having a lot of brochure scans & other interesting information.

If you want to see photos from missing episodes of RSG and TOTP go to www.gettyimages.co.uk/ and www.alamy.com/ and search on the show's name. They don't have many broadcast dates, and many photos are rehearsal shots, but an essential look at lost TV history.
