King Crimson "Cat Food" Top of the Pops 1970 (clip, colorized) Colorized and restored by Garrett Gilchrist. First pass by Jason Antic, creator of DeOldify. www.dailymotion.com/video/x7rrvxhwww.mediafire.com/file/oq9olxhrmv54c9n/Early King Crimson performance with Greg Lake, Robert Fripp, Peter Sinfield, Ian McDonald, Michael Giles. This Top of the Pops episode no longer exists, but this clip survived in a foreign edition, in black and white. It was hand-colorized by Garrett Gilchrist, using Photoshop, DeOldify, EBSynth, DeepRemaster, Premiere and AfterEffects. Really great job there. How long did this take you and are you planning any other TOTP b&w clips?

Wow! Amazing work Garrett. If I was being hypercritical maybe a touch too orange(?), but that could just be me.
Line-up in that clip actually Greg Lake, Robert Fripp, Keith Tippett, Peter Giles and Micheal Giles. Apologies for the Crimson pedantry!
Looking forward to seeing much more of your work!

That really is an amazing piece of alchemy!
Garrett can I ask a dumb question? As this is colorized, rather than colour recovery, there are presumably no colour references to go on. Flesh tones are logical enough but how do you decide that - for example - pink is the colour of the tights worn by the girl in the white dress at the start of the clip? Or that the guy standing to ler left has a blue shirt?

A prime example of getting it wrong is the colourized clip of The Supremes' first appearance on 'The Ed Sullivan Show': the dresses they wore were pale blue! The King Crimson clip looks great, but I must admit I'm against colourization unless we can be really sure that the colours are correct. One that did work well (at least with '90s technology) is The Beatles' 'All You Need Is Love'. Before 'Anthology' it only existed in black and white, but because many colour photos exist we can be certain that they got things right.

They used every colour under the rainbow in the Beatles clip.
