I have a recollection of that. Considering the turmoil that country has been through it’s possible that things could still be on a shelf in a largely forgotten storeroom after decades - a bit like Nigeria. But it’s equally possible that they could have been destroyed by the revolutionary guards! I’m not sure if even the most passionate fan would risk going to look in Iran! People go there on holiday. Maybe less today than a year ago, but it's not as crazy as it sounds. It's not what we would consider normal, but neither is it North Korea where you get beaten to death for trying to take a poster. Then again, I imagine if you did unusual things, it definitely would draw attention. With mugabe dead, how about Zimbabwe? Or was that pure BS all along? There are places you can go on holiday - but don’t stray off the beaten path! I think Zimbabwe was BS.

The Web of Fear was found complete. According to Philip Morris himself, sometime during the six months of negotiations episode 3 disappeared. Possible bought by a deep pocket collector. So we cannot watch the episode where Colonel (later Brigadier) Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart is introduced.
Less certain is the rumor Morris found a third, title unknown, complete series. That disappeared entirely.

It could even be a non-DW tape of course. Also would it really require deep pockets to persuade a Nigerian to accept a bribe, who likely earns a comparative pittance compared to what we're used to?

Didn’t PV intimate somewhere that there was some evidence that the 2 audition prints of Marco Polo may still exist but are unreachable or is it just wishful thinking & an active imagination on my part? Paul did say that he's aware of a collector who has 2 DW episodes but declined to say what they were. Is this the same thing but with someone having ingrained their own speculation on what they might be? Or is this something separate?

One is a private collector, the other is an archive in Iran.

The first is that you start to lose your memory - and I can’t remember the other two!

Just to chip in with my two cents and add assurance to those who feel like their memory may be on the blink!: I too remember PV saying that he believes there's a good chance Iran has episodes of Marco Polo. I believe that particular post was made on this forum this year or late last year.

Pretty sure this is separate & refers to E1 & 2 of Marco but happy to be corrected.

Separate. There was idle speculation about the Iran prints a few months or weeks prior to Paul’s reveal of two eps in a collector’s hands.
I don’t remember the specifics of the Iran thing. I think a second hand account of someone seeing something in the place they would be?

I think a second hand account of someone seeing something in the place they would be? Years ago, a TV engineer spotted a pile of Doctor Who film cans while working in an Iranian TV archive. This was reported to the RT. AFAIK, it's not certain that MP 1&2 were in that pile, but it was not ruled out either. A highly qualified TV archiving professional sent a letter. A reply came back stating that the archive did not hold any Doctor Who episodes. Did anyone there actually look? Who knows. Even if the episodes are still present in the archive, I reckon it would be easier to find them somewhere else than to retrieve them from Iran, given the current (and longstanding) political situation. And no, I'm not expecting an announcement...
