A friend recalled 'Tales from Europe' on BBC circa 1966 having its own title prefix which didn't appear on the NETWORK releases. A 'dwoop - dwoop' drooping electronic sound track sound appeared, accompanying a target style graphic.
I myself recall a plain grey background, which I believe I saw once in colour circa 1970, which was blue. A white typeface (capitals) appeared with the title, and I think classical music (or a fade to the films classical soundtrack).
Does anyone know if these titles exist?

There are quite a few examples of the 1960s sequence you mention, on the end of editions of "Blue Peter" (similarly there are lots of end title sequences of "Jackanory" on the front of "Blue Peter"s!). There is also an actual edition of "TFE" in the archive from that era ("Windsor Box" tx 23/1/69) which might have it.
I'm not sure if there is an example of the 70s sequence, but episode 4 of "The Madly Sad Princess" is held in the archive on a spool of children's programmes recorded off air on 5/1/72, since that was a Czech serial it's possible it went out under the "TFE" banner, and as such might have the title sequence.

Many thanks for this fascinating info. Yes, I seem to remember 'the madly sad princess' being linked to 'Tales from Europe'. I seem to think Peggy miller may have appeared on a wicker chair presenting it ? I think the change in the titles was between 1966 and 67, but it obviously ran into colour as I recall it in the early 70s (at a friends). This second title was the plainer one without the 'target' afriend recalled.
