Here's what Doug Hinman says in his day by day Kinks Kronikle, 'All Day and all of the Night'
Thursday 10th April:
TV BBC Lime Grove Studios West London BBC1 Top Of The Pops lip-synch 'Plastic Man'. The band videotapes an insert for use on an upcoming TOTP because Ray will be in the US during the period that that single is likely to chart.
Thursday 1st May:
While being interviewed for Record Mirror the band learn that the BBC will not air the tape made on April 10th of 'Plastic Man' for broadcast on Top Of The Pops this evening. The Kinks are annoyed and claim it'a because of the word 'bum' in the songs lyrics. The BBC maintains it is simply because the song's chart position does not warrant it's inclusion in the programme.

You just beat me to it Adam
I also checked my NME and Disc and Music Echo collection for April and May but unfortunately no Kinks interview within them

Thanks everyone, I've only got Doug Hinman's discography book, so 'All Day' is a must by the sounds...
