An episode of Madame Bovary is also listed: First Love 02/05/1964 That one has been held in the archive for quite some time - something over ten years I think, but it may not have been in early Kaleidoscope guides...

The following (probably very partial) Not Only..But Also.. episodes are listed: 3/4/65 22/1/66 29/1/66 5/2/66 12/2/66 3/4/65, 29/1/66 and 12/2/66 have not holdings, but are probably just there for reference (or wishful thinking that they'll turn up). An off-air soundtrack from a collector is held for 22/1/66 and 5/2/66

Thirteen Against Fate- The Lodger (19/06/1966) is listed. Only reel 2 (or 2) of a 16mm telerecording exists - I think this may have been one of the programmes that turned up during a stock check in the early 90s (as did the end of "A for Andromeda" #7).

Do the episodes of Marty from 20/5/68 and 23/12/68 exist ? 20/5/68 - only a mute film sequence is held, a collector has the soundtrack for the episode. 23/12/68 - this exists complete as a 16mm telerecording - this may be the episode that was misfiled under another episode until a year or two ago.

I wonder if Andrew Martin can provide a few answers to queries i've got regarding TOTP on Infax?
There are a several editions listed for no apparent reason; most of the early entries for this series (i.e. up to 1970 or so) are there because they are the surviving ones (or have clips / inserts surviving from them). Can you say why the following may be listed though? 12/11/64, 29/7/65, 19/8/65, 30/9/65, 30/6/66, 30/3/67, 18/7/68,29/8/68, 23/7/70 and 21/10/71. As far as is known, there is nothing surviving from these shows. Maybe i'm missing some glaring reason for them being listed?
My other question relates to Late Night Line Up. There are listed 390 editions (which, by a roundabout route) can be called up individually. Do all these listed exist either whole or in part or is it again a case of random missing / non-missing editions being listed alongside each other for no particular reason? Which of the late editions are retained on colour VT?
Any help gratefully appreciated, Andrew.

Top of the Pops 12/11/64 - an off-air soundtrack recording is held 29/07/65 - nothing for this edition (one or two days' complete transmissions in the 60s were added some years ago, experimentally, to see what problems it would cause - this day is one of them) 19/08/65 - no holdings, I don't know why this one was added. 30/09/65 - this is an insert of Peter Paul and Mary performing "Early Morning Rain", recorded 20/09/65 on the set of "Tonight in Person" for use in TOTP, it was only discovered a year or so ago on a tape containing most of their two editions of TIP (tx 4/10/65 and 1/1/66). 30/06/66 - nothing for this day, not known why this entry is on Infax. 30/03/67 - poor quality VHS of Jimi Hendrix Experience doing "Purple Haze" - ex ZDF ultimately. 18/07/68 - Richard Harris "Macarthur Park" promo - this has been held for ages but the tx date was only added recently. 29/08/68 - this is an old record of junked magnetic tracks for this edition - no picture elements held, I've no idea when the mag tracks were junked, but it wasn't recently. 23/07/70 - another old record, a promo of "Song of Joy" by Miguel Rios. Again, no idea when it was junked other than not recently. 21/10/71 - Rod Stewart "Maggie May" insert (a copy for ZDF, though the BBC seems to have had it for quite some time). Again this was only recently tracked down to a tx date. LATE NIGHT LINE-UP Broadly speaking these do exist if they are logged on Infax - at some point I will probably go through them to list the precise holdings, at the moment you will appreciate that nearly 400 editions would take some time to do! They are a mixture of film recordings (complete and inserts), film items, and some VT - there are a very few complete VT programmes from very late on, including the last one. As a rough guide, if the programme number is LPR followed by a 1, 2, 4 or 9, then there are VT holdings, otherwise they are film holdings (most often LPR followed by a 5). That's not foolproof though (different 'dummy' programme numbers were used when film and tape were logged on separate systems many years ago, when the systems were combined, of there was tape and film for a programme the tape number took precedence and was kept).

Thanks for the detailed reply, Andrew. A couple of interesting clips from TOTP have surfaced then.

Thank you for the very full replies, Andrew.
I hope the catalogue, this site's listings and those on the BBC's Treasure Hunt page can be updated with the information you've given in the not too distant future.

Andrew - i was checking the listings for " a whole scene going" and I think there's material on the reel I have that isn't in any of the listed editions - I recall you mentioning before that you believed there was a "best of" type reel held for this series - specifically there's interview footage with oliver tobias about "hair"

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for providing the additional insight into the infax records. It's great to have access to all this wonderful information.
One question from me: there's an infax listing for the Beatles December 1963 appearance on Juke Box Jury. Are the different source recordings (a, b, c) alluded to in the listing audio recordings, or have some visual elements been recovered? Back in 2001, there was a Beatles Book Monthly article that referred to the existance of some silent footage of their appearance. Thanks in advance!
Best regards, John

My searches under the title produced no results!
