Sadly, music TV pioneer Jack Good died on 24th September after a fall at his home. He literally invented the dynamic presentation of rock & roll on British TV, working on shows such as The 6:5 Special, Oh Boy! & Boy Meets Girl. He also gave Gene Vincent his black leathers look and Richard the 3rd leg-dragging limp after having heard Be-Bop-A-Lula conjuring up such an image largely at odds with the swabbo figure standing in front of him waiting to go on TV. Having dressed him in accordance with his vision, Good then had to exhort Gene Vincent, as he made his way to the microphone, to "limp, you bugger, limp."
My favourite Jack Good story, though, comes from when he was in charge of Shindig in the States. The Rolling Stones were on and had insisted that Howlin' Wolf be included on the bill too. Poor old Jack had never met anyone like Howlin' Wolf before, or even someone called Howlin' Wolf ... and he was heard to enquire over the day, things like, "Er, Mr. Wolf, could you just do another take ..." or "Howlin' could you stand over here for a picture."

He also produced '33 1/3 Revolutions per Monkee', the 1969 TV special.
