As far as TV archives are concerned .. it's important to remember many UK archives have changed hands since the mid 1990s. E.g. Anglia went to United News.Media which was then bought up by Granada who offloaded some to Carlton but since have merged all their owned libaries with Carlton. There are many others who have changed hands at least once in that timeframe too. So taking the information in 1995 as the same as 2006 may not always be accurate. Basic up to date information in on the BFI website www.bfi.org.uk .... search for relevant section there

I've got several of those books myself. They contain far more information than just a list of archives. In addition to contact details they describe how to research collections in archives both in the UK and abroad.
Most importantly for missing TV episode hunters, they list details of many foreign archives. If you want to find missing TV then the most likely place to find prints/VT is in overseas archives as the archives in the UK have been extensively checked.
Alternatively you could just sit back and hope that the material you hope to find will just miraculously turn up on Ebay.....
