Hi,
I am a collector of an old music paper called The Disc and Music Echo published between April 1966 and 1972.
A friend of mine likes to collate running orders for groups or solo artists appearing on Top of the Pops. He is aware of the information on the likes of the POPSCENE website etc so just wants confirmation from the D&ME to compare with other websites.
I have helped him out in the past from my collection, but I have some gaps in my collection
So, I was wondering if any forum member has a collection of the D&ME? and if he or she would be willing to help my friend by looking through their issues to see if old TOTP appearances are listed in the issue/s?
As a start does anyone have the Disc and Music Echo from these dates?
16/06/1966 04/08/1966 09/11/1967
Thanks William

Thanks RWels
The National Library in Edinburgh has most of 1966 and I have looked at them many a time but unfortunately they do not have any 1967 to 1972 issues.

Hi William.I can't help in your search but want to thank you for reminding me about this publication.I used to buy the NME & Melody Maker every week back then along with another music paper which I had forgotten the name of....until you started this thread😊 I think I also used to buy something called the Record Mirror on occasions?

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your comments. The Disc and Music Echo, in my opinion, was the best of the 1960's pop music newspapers I have most of 1969, 1970 and 1971 you see them up for sale on EBay but I wish there were more on offer to plug the gaps in my collection.
I'm glad that my thread has helped your memory! if you want any info from the D&ME I'll see if I can help?
I also have complete years of the NME from 1964 to 1970 and a lot of 1963,
Melody Maker I have complete years 1967 1969 1970 1971 1972.

Hi William.Sounds like we were both avid collectors back in the day.I also collected football programmes and publications like Soccer Star & World Soccer.Sadly over time and the advent of family commitments & relocations much of it got lost. Ebay has been a saviour as I have managed to trace copies of many items of special importance to me. I still have my original copies of the 1966 World Cup progs which I would never sell or throw away.

I too collect football programmes but only of my favourite team Hibernian (our current programme is brilliant) it has really good bits of nostalgia in it. Including a long running article on Hibs tour of America and Canada in 1967.
If there's any particular football programme from the past that you are having problems locating then please let me know and I'll try and find it at the library in Edinburgh.
I don't know anything about Soccer Star or World soccer? I used to buy Shoot! in the early 1970's. I used to like the free league table pullouts. The articles were good as well.
EBay is the place I suppose to buy lost mags?
That's great that you have the 1966 programmes and I agree never sell them!

Hibs win in the Scottish Cup Final last year was truly one of sport's most getting the monkey off my back moments.I was watching the final and even after Hibs took the lead in injury time the Sky commentator said that now "even Hibs can't Hibs this!".Shame the pitch invasion took the gloss off things but no club on this planet has a better anthem than Sunshine on Leith.

Thanks for your kind words Paul (although it was more King Kong than monkey!) 114 yrs I thought I'd never see them win the cup.
In a way I can understand the pitch invasion without condoning it; 99.9% of the fans just wanted to celebrate but a few nutters started fighting.
"Sunshine on Leith" can sometimes bring a lump to my throat and no more so than 21st May 2016. It's right up there with "You'll Never walk Alone"
Here it is on the day...

It's fitting as the Proclaimers are Hibs fans.

Sadly it doesn't appear to have been digitized by anyone. I checked some catalogs for online content, but no it's too old and obscure for that.
